Hello. My name is Ann and I have been here in the past. I was on Atkins back in 2003 and used this board. I got down to 130 pounds and a size 4! Well, the weight crept back on and I now weigh about 20 pounds more than when I started the first time!

One of my main problems is that I have PCOS. I have been TTC for about 2.5 years. I have been seeing a fertility specialist since last August and things have been going very poorly. I have had my last two IUI cycles cancelled. This is expensive, financially and emotionally. After my last cancelled cycle I asked the nurse I work with there if she thought I would have a better chance of getting pregnant if I lost some weight. She said that they do not accept donor eggs from women with a BMI over 30, so she suggested that, though she wasn't that worried about my weight, losing 10-15 pounds certainly wouldn't hurt. My BMI was 31.7 at the time.

So, I have decided to take some time off treatment to lose weight. Our next cycle will be IVF, and because our insurance coverage is about gone we will have to come up with $7000 out-of-pocket for the procedure. I want to give myself the best possible chance of success.

My brother is getting married in mid-June, halfway across the country, so I decided that I would wait on treatment until I got back from that trip. I will be returning to my RE in July and hope to be close to a BMI of 25.

I restarted Atkins on 3/25/07, the day after our 9 year anniversary, and so today is the end of my first two weeks. I have lost 9 pounds so far! During the last week I have finally felt like I am no longer tempted by bad foods! The first week was rough, though. My one problem is that I have been very inconsistent with exercising so far. My goal, starting today, is to exercise 5-7 times per week!

Sorry this was so long! I can't wait to get to know all of you!

Welcome back Anne! Congratulations on your losses so far! So glad you decided to re-commit to Atkins. I'm sure this will not only help you shed some pounds but also help with your health issues. I don't know much about fertility treatments, but I imagine that a little "rest" between treatments can only do you good. All my best wishes for the success of future treatments.

Have you thought about checking in to the Second Time Around Forum? Lots of support and inspiration to be had there from others who've taken a tumble from the Atkins wagon, and then climbed back on.

Keep us posted as to your progress... we're all behind you 100%!

Good morning Ann! Welcome back to the board! My name is Scooter and I'm so happy to hear of your determination to get back in the swing of things!

I started this way of life 1 year ago today. I've lost 75 pounds (so far) and 10 inches from my waist, and 3x shirts to X-large. I've still got a bit to go, but it's okay and I absolutely love welcoming friends back, and or new folks that stumble accross the site.

Why not head on over to the Second Time Around Forum. We have a daily Roll Call. Some motivational threads and such, we can discuss what possibly triggered you to slip, goals, excuses, success.....it's basically a forum for those of us (myself included - ate a cookie at christmas and turned it into 14 pounds in 6 weeks) who lost our way in the dark, only to find the light again!

Also, I know you've already got your book, read up on it, and here are some helpful links, you may have already seen these, but I still like to post them for your assistance:

Anyway, congrats on going low carb, make sure you jump around the forums and make your presence known, we are very happy to have you with us!!

Seriously, come on over (STACer's Second Time Around Club) and say hello!

Best of wishes! Life is good!
