  • New and determined!

    Hi everyone,
My name is Claudia and I am so happy to have found this board! I recently moved and dont have any support here. I have been overweight my entire life. I have tried EVERYTHING out there..been in inpatient hospital programs when i was a teen (and put on a low calorie HIGH carb diet), done all the fad diets, would lose some and gain it back, had tons of therapy, and a few years ago got the Lap-Band. That was the worst mistake of my life. Long story short, it eroded into my stomach..had deplorable surgeries in MX..pulmonary embolism..almost died. No more surgeries!
Also during one of my endoscopies found out I have Celiac Sprue (a gluten intolerance)...so I gave up all gluten containing foods for the last year. Which was great..but i never lost any weight. (of course i just learned to substitute gf carbs for regular). I have high bp, severe insulin-resistence, fibromyalgia, and now fatty liver disease (prolly from the yoyo dieting). Whew if thats not enough, i have three children and my two youngest were diagnosed as autistic. Its been a crazy past few years...and all my energy has gone to my kids..but i realize if i dont get my weight (and my life) under control ..i wont be around for them..and i have no other family,...so failure is NOT an option!
I know without a doubt, I am totally addicted to carbs..and being on the induction has been soooo liberating. My head doesnt feel like its in a fog anymore, my depression has lifted, im gaining energy back..i am psyched! The ten pounds in a week is an added bonus. I have no desire to 'cheat' or eat any 'bad' carb every again. I think of it as being an alocoholic..or heroin addict....u just cant have a little (for me anyways).
Sorry this is so long... but i appreciate learning from all of your experiences..and will be checking posts often but may not be posting that much (kids keep me busyyy!)

Hi Claudia! Welcome to the board. Atkins sounds like a perfect way for you to lose weight once and for all! Do you understand the rules of induction and all that? if you don't have the 2002 edition of DANDR, I would urge you to read it, it will become the best book you own!

Congrats on your loss so far, you're doing great!

Keep you eyes peeled for an upcoming veggie challenge!

THANK YOU EVERYONE! Gosh i appreciate it.

And Tara, yes, moving and starting over without knowing anyone sucks. I used to make friends so easily..but i think the more weight i gained the more depressed i got..blah blah blah. But also, all the skinny moms in my neighborhood look at me like im a leper...at least thats my perception ..when i try to start conversations. Are they afraid they are gonna get fat by osmosis? Maybe it is me..ah well..whatever..just more stuff i gotta work on..lol

                  Re: New and determined!

Your probably not imagining their behavior,I have been in the same vote.I'm 5'7" and got down to 130 lbs in my early 20's with my first child and there was a big difference in how I got treated weighing 130 compared to the 270 I ended up at after the second child. Its not right because the same personality was there but the body wasn't.Needless to say my now ex husband treated me differently between being skinny and fat too. He is now remarried to a woman that weighs 106 its sick! But that is his own problem. I just realized this week that some of my eating triggers were to keep me sedated while stuck at home with the kids and to help me with the stress of being a single mom.I don't drink or smoke so the food was the drug of choice.Realizing this has really helped me turn of alot of my craving because most were habit according to the clock or emotional trigger to help avoid some thing in my life.

Welcome aboard, Its great that you've had such a great weight loss so far! Keep up the good work ,Your worth it!

Hi Claudia....I am sooo happy for you that you are making this wonderful life change for yourself and for your children.....good for you on the 10lbs and keep it going.....it's funny because it is like any other addict....I recently quit smoking after 20+ yrs of doing so....and people ask me how I just quit.....shoot I asked myself that a few times because I never dreamed I would be able to do it.....but I quit...I wasn't trying....I quit....I was no longer a smoker, therefore there were no options.....and you know it really did help!!
Look forward to getting to know you.....
                        Hugs,
