Re: Just starting!

The winning phrase would be "I just really want my mom not to recognize me when I go home!! ". I mean, who seriously wants their mom to recognize them most of their life?? Certainly not when they're skipping school and their mom drives by and you try to turn the corner really quick to hide...

Sorry, I just found it amusing. I *do* understand it.

Hiya Mish, I am not a domestic turtle at all. Have actually burnt boiled eggs. ewww does that smell but can now actually boil without burning eggs and I can cook some meat in a fry pan. I don't usually have a lot of patience to cook so most of my stuff is fairly simple. meat/vegie. I like the idea of cooking ahead for the week but have not done that yet. maybe I will try that this next weekend as I have Sat afternoon and Sunday all day off. then the rest of the week would be just throwing stuff together. Your dinner looks like a good start to me. and GREAT idea to take your list with you shopping. Keep up the good work.

Re: Just starting!

I'm just starting out with this as well. Almost one week down. Some things that come to mind that are easy, actually, cooking just for myself on this diet is turning out to be pretty quick.

Breakfast a quick omlett or scrambled eggs are fast to cook.

For lunches, take a salad you prepared with some lettuce, hard boiled egg, tomatoes, bites of steak or chicken and shredded cheese. You can top this with sour cream or I think you may even be able to use the low carb ranch.

I cook up some hamburgers and save for later, reheat in micro and add some cheese after I have reheated a bit.

Many meats can be cooked ahead of time. Say on Saturday or Sunday you could cook up enough for the week and boil some eggs too. I found that the Carne Asada slices of steak will cook in a pan in a matter of minutes. Add some seasoning, cut it up and you have your protein for your salads.

You just need to rotate your ingredients so you don't have the exact same thing all the time or you will get tired of it quick !!

Hey Michelle,

I hope your 1st day went well...mine was good, I really feel like I'm losing weight so I am excited. I also agree that cooking during the weekend helps! I cooked for about an hour and a half today and I have stuff for at least three days of lunches. It doesn't take long but it makes all the difference in the world. Let me know how you are doing. We CAN do it!!!

Mish, I am so very proud of you. You are meeting this challenge head on and encouraging others with you. I am restarting atkins today and I look forward to going through this with you. You have been my best friend for 4 years now and I love you so much. I am so happy that you are doing this for yourself. Because when it comes down to it, you can't do it for anyone but you.

That being said, I have a proposition for you my bestest friend: I say that when we both reach our goals we should pay for each other's Disney tickets. We have been putting off going to Disney for so long and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate with you. What do you say?

Re: Just starting!

Hi Michelle! Welcome to Atkins.
I am new to these boards as well but not new to Atkins.

If no one told you yet, buy and read "Dr Atkins New Diet revolution"
Its priceless, and extremely important.

Also, I wouldn't go by the new Atkins website they promote using their shakes and bars and such and those are dangerous., Stay away from them., They can make you crave sugar and carbs, they did for me.
Clean eating is important.
Meats, fats and veggies.,
As all natural as possible.

Give this just 2 weeks and you'll never turn back. If you do, its ok, jump back into Induction, and join me on the 2nd time around board!!!

I succeeded greatly with this diet before but because I went back to my old way of eating I gained it all back plus some.

The best advise I can give you, is READ THE BOOK, and think of this as a new way of life, not a quick fix (thats even if you do),
I didn't see it that way last time and thats how I failed.

This will work for you, it is fool proof!!
I will send you the book if need be, just let me know!

Re: Just starting!

ok guys, OFFICIALLY this is day 3 of induction, but i'm technically on day 6?? I sort of started it on Friday ... I just woke up and this is the first day that i feel super exhausted ... which sucks, i've had a lot of energy lately!! i ate too late last night, but i all my carbs were under 20 and i drank 3 liters of water, but i didn't get home until like 10, and i had some tuna fish ... bah. i'll just drink an extra liter of water today. My work pants have gotten really loose, and my jeans have gotten a little baggy too. That's the only place i've seen any difference. I'm not going to buy a scale until i'm done with induction, otherwise i'll be on that thing every damn day!! haha ... last night i didn't go 'power walking' like i was going to, i did the night before (i also did 20 pushups), but last night i did 20 crunches, then 10 side crunches each ... but didn't do pushups because my arms are killing me!! i am a HEAVY weight to lift!!! anyway! i think i'm doing ok, i haven't eaten anything that is not on the list ... i'm just result hungry i guess ... but i know nothing happens overnight! bah!

Re: Just starting!
... and I really can't afford the atkins food.

Is anyone else in the same boat? If so, what'd you do? ... lol
Don't worry about the cost of buying meat too much. After the first few days, you lose your food cravings and become full faster. At least fresh vegetables are inexpensive. I am a new member here, but I did Atkins for a long time a few years ago. I am currently on the induction phase, too. My appetite seemed to diminish all at once the evening of day 3. I've heard it takes anywhere from 3 days to about a week for the appetite reduction to occur, but it does occur!! You will then eat less and spend less buying that food because you are eating less.

Good luck!

Tamara
