  • Intro from Soccermom

I started the adkins diet on 4/10/2007, I found this board a few days later and have done some reading. I got my little ticker attached (I hope it shows, LOL) for the 60 lbs. I want to lose. I'm 39 and my Birthday is in Sept., I'd like to reach my goal of 60 lbs. by then. Does it sound realistic ?? I will weigh in probably on Tuesday, have to get to the gym to do it. I'm also working out at curves.

I just got copies of the Atkins for Life and Atkins Essentials. Niether is the original book. Will these work or should I go and get the original as well? These were given to me by a friend.

I have the ketosis sticks and I'm definately dropping some ketones so that is a good thing.

It's great getting to chit chat with others who have chosen this way of life.

Hi. Welcme to the board. The book we refer to here is the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, 2002. You can usually find them either at Walmart for under $7 or I've got them at thrift stores for a few dollars. Reading how to do the program, why it works, research, studies, recipes and the motivation found in this book is invaluable to doing the program.

I'd suggest you take your measurements so you can see the inches drop, make sure you are doing exercise, drinking lots of water, taking your supplements and eating the induction foods only while on induction.

This is the best support system you'll find. There are so many forums on life/health, recipes, photos/stories, challenges, journals and general chat between the members. You aren't alone. Everyone is more than willing to share information with each other. If you have any questions, just ask.

So glad to have you join us! Best wishes....

Warm welcome to you Soccermom. Glad you found us here at ADBB!

It's cool that you already have two Atkins books, but I'd ditto what Becky said and advise you to get a copy of DANDR 2002 edition. This was the last one Dr A wrote in its entirety before his death, so didn't have "other" pens messing around with it. It's the one this board goes by.

Difficult to say if you'll reach your goal by your birthday... everyone's different in the way they lose weight. I really hope you do, but would say that it's direction that counts more than speed, don't you think?

        Happy losing!

Welcome soccermom! I think you'll find a great place to visit on this board! There are so many people with such a wide variety of backgrounds, that - surely- someone has gone through what you are going through.

Realize that the weight loss will not be consistent. Some times, the 'whooshie fairy' will visit, and you'll have a large, unexpected weight loss. (she visited me this week - thanks for sending her my way misplacedsouthener!! ;-P) Sometimes, you'll hit a stall. Not getting frustrated during the stalls is the hardest thing for me. I've found that if I increase my water, increase my exercise 10-15 min/day.... I can push through the stalls.

We're all here to help you! Good luck in your journey!

                  Very well done you!

How did you find the first week?

I love fillet steak but think the bank balance is starting to groan - as I have to feed 4 on it and if I am eating it then why can't they! Fair comment from hubbie - but the kids!!!
