About seven years ago when I had my daughter I was at my highest weight ever (166 lbs) and decided to try a new low-carb diet I had heard about. I lost over forty pounds on Atkins and happily kept the weight off for five years. Then slowly began to gain it back over the last two years. Since I had such great success with the diet before I decided to try again.
I'm a little over a week into induction.
I never realized how addicted I was to carbs. Over the past few years I have developed a complete love affair with bread. The fresher the better! I had no idea how lousy it was making me look and feel. About six or eight months ago I began getting a distended belly. I'd always be gassy and I'd have to button my pants under my bloated belly. I always laughed it off when people asked me if I was pregnant but deep down it hurts a little when it seems like the whole world notices you look about six months pregnant. Since starting the diet the bloating and gas are completely gone. I still have a bit of a belly but it feels so good to not have to walk and worry that someone might ask when the baby is due.
Before I started the diet I was at 31% body fat. Totally ridiculous and completely unneccessary. I'm hoping to change that and get down to a much more reasonable number.
My induction isn't as clean as I wish it was. Most days I'm a little over on my carbs because I tend to enjoy my fresh veggies. I'm planning to begin watching my carbs more carefully and I tested my urine just to be sure and there were ketones present do I don't think I've done too much damage.
I speedwalk and do yoga daily. Walking is my cardio and yoga help my right hip which started bothering me again (I've always had problems with it) when I started putting on the weight.
I'm really glad to be here. I have been lurking the board since the day I decided to try Atkins and the people are wonderful and there's so much useful information. Thanks so much for all you've done for me already. It's great to know there is a place to go to get the support you need when you're going through such a huge life change.
