  • Hi I am New and Australian

    Hi there,

I have just started this diet 4 days ago, my only problem with this diet is i am on a no carb for the first two weeks because i am overweight.
I weighed 96.6 kilos hen i started on Friday20th April 2007 and today Monday 23rd April (my Birthday) i weigh 93.2 kilos. I would love some great recipes and some ideas on how to keep the carbs down in a fortnight as i love cram cakes and chocolate and miss my chocolate milk.
Anyway i hope stick to this thanks for listening

Hiya Tezzaa and welcome to ADBB! Happy you decided to post here.

I'd not do a no-carb diet, if I were you, even for only two weeks. You need those induction veggies for vitamins and minerals, and veggies come with some carbs. Also, if you eat too little, your body will go into starvation mode very quickly and your weight loss will slow down dramatically, or stop.

Why not get hold of a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition). It explains how this way of eating works quite brilliantly... and that's fundamental for success.

Here's a link to Linda's recipe site. Her dishes are awesome and the ones that are induction friendly are marked with an asterisk:

      Hi Sally

Thanks for the reply as i said i am very very new to this. I suppose in some ways i am having a small amount of carbs as i have a coffee with 1/4 tsp sugar and milk.
Tonight my husband who is also on this diet made a home made chicken soup. We cooked a whole chicken in water and then added 2 packets of chicken noodle soup. The paskets hold 6.2g of carbs. The whole family had this so i think it was a small amount of carbs. I am also having a low joule Jelly with a couple of strawberrys and i will dip it in cream. Please tell me i am not over doing it. I have been feeling very sick and starting to feel a little better.
Thanks So much for the reply.

Re: Hi I am New and Australian

        Hi TEZZAA !

Welcome and HI ( from australia also)
Have you read the Book??? To do Atkins properly you need to be doing it exactly by the book or you may be doing yourself harm - and also sabotaging your own weight loss efforts !
There are many many tasty and satisfying foods that are available to you -- even during induction - that after a very short while you will be past all the cravings of the past and in control of what you eat.
You will need to have a look at what foods are allowed for induction to get you into the fat burning state of Ketosis. This process also helps to control your appetite which is fantastic. You will need to keep track of your carbs... and not trying to cut them out all together. try to stick to whole foods ( not processed ) and fresh veges etc. you will also need to be taking a good multivitamin ( all this info is available through the board)
INduction may seem hard at first but really it is very easy once you get started. foods not allowed in induction will gradually be added back to your diet once things get going. just follow the plan and you will be fine.

        Good Luck

Re: Hi I am New and Australian

I agree with Donna and would really urge you to get hold of the book as soon as you can! It's soooo important to do Atkins right, from the beginning.

In the meantime, take a look at the stickies in the Induction Forum and see what you can and cannot eat. Noodles and sugar are both no-no's I'm sorry to say.

Here are a couple of useful links for you:

Re: Hi I am New and Australian

Hey Tezza! Welcome to the board! You should buy a copy of the book, it's a great investment. This way of eating must be done without any sugar, or flour. Eventually you will add these back into your diet, but for now it's most important to start off following the rules of induction (see link sallyseachange posted for you above). It's best to keep with fresh, whole foods rather than packaged ones!

Come around the board often, ask questions and cruise all of the forums.
