  • Hey

Hi everyone!!! This forum has been a great support during my first 9 days of induction. Let me tell you my story--- About 2 years ago i had a very bad accident at work. I ended up seriously injuring my spine- 5 micro fractures to the lumbar spine and 2 ruptured disks. i recieved 10 hours of surgury, a spinal fusion and lapinectimy and stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. While in the hopital i was informed that my blood sugar was an unreal 468 and the doctors were amazed that i was feeling no ill effects from it. I had terrible eating habits- a 12 pack of pepsi a day, 6-10 cups of dark and sweet coffee, and every high sugar/carb food under the sun ended up in my mouth. When i entered the hospital i was 240 lbs and very unhealthy. Speed ahead one year.....9 days ago i was 281 lbs and heading to disaster- my blood sugars were holding at 150 (with metaformin and actos daily) and i'm still having trouble with my back due to my weight gain. 10 days ago i finally woke up- i looked at my twin 11 yr olds and my 6 year old and decided that if i ever wanted to see grand children i better stop feeling sorry for myself and change my life. I've read about many diets, but adkins looked more like a lifestyle than diet, so induction began. I had a carb hangover for 5 days- i mean the headache was just like a hangover, and a real funky taste in my mouth. The cravings were unreal, but i kept strong. in 9 days i'm at 262...great, but i realize there will be stalls, and i need to stay focused. Anyway i'd like to thank this board for the recipe ideas and overall support, its allways helps to read about others in the same boat as yourself. Thanks again!!!!!

ps- for an experiment i stopped all diabetes meds during induction-- blood has held steady between 74-99..........wow

Welcome Pitbill! Wow! Yours is quite a story. So glad you found us here and decided to join in the fun. It seems like you're really committed and determined to succeed. That's cool, because the right attitude is half the battle!

Congrats on your losses so far and congrats on holding fast through the induction flu! Oh and more congrats on quitting your blood sugar meds! That's awesome!

Have you read the book? DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) 2002 edition is the one we go by here at ADBB. It was the last one that Dr A wrote in its entirety, so hasn't had other "pens" messing it up.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. We're rooting for you!

500 bottles of Tuscan wines? Wow, how wonderful! Once you get to the alcohol rung in OWL you'll enjoy re-introducing those! I used to drink wine far too fast... now, because of Atkins I sip a glass of red most evenings and really appreciate it.
