  • Hello to all!

Hello everyone! My name is Kurt & I live in Lexington, KY. UK BBall fan for life. I finally decided to sign up for an account to ask some questions I've had after I've been lurking for about a month. I found the site using the Google search engine and I have to say that the community on here is very encouraging!

I've always been very active, running about 3-5 miles daily, until last spring when I started devoloping shin splints. I would try to rest and run less, but they started to get so bad that I would only be running two days a week and having to take off for the following two weeks after. . I basically coasted through the summer w/ no activity save for swimming every now and then. By the fall I started to pick up weight until after Christmas I realized I was at the largest weight I had been yet: 190lbs. I decided to join the gym in January to reduce the weight and I'm not sure if I was only replacing fat w/ muscle mass or what, but my weight stayed the same!

Finally, a friend I haven't seen in a while told me about the Atkins diet (of course I'd heard of it, just never knew any specifics). My goal weight is 160, so I gave it an expiremental try w/ mostly a clean induction (I went out drinking one night and had bourbon & diet coke - which stalled me for a day) for 13 days and lost 8.5 lbs. Then I went to Vegas and . As soon I got back I went back to induction but along w/ the jetlag got stiffled w/ induction flu. Anyway, I've been going strong since and am down to 175.0 lbs. It definetly helped being able to find some recipe ideas on here otherwise I would have succumbed just due to boredom. I have ordered the book as well and am going to give this a stronger approach.

Wow - I didn't realize that that was such a long intro (sorry). Thanks to all your past and future support! :

    Re: Hello to all!

Hi there, Welcome to the Board~~

You're right, this is a very encouraging place to be!
Shin splints are pretty painful, but relatively easy to tame too...sit in a straight-back chair, lift one leg, bent, and trace the letters of the alphabet with your big toe. Do the same with the other leg. If you do this consistently a few times a day, you'll notice the pain will lessen, and then will go. I used to run too, and found this really helpful.

The book is great~come on in here with any questions/concerns and please join in anywhere you feel like it.
    Hope to see you around!
