I am on day 9 of induction and I am doing real good. No cheats but I bought those ketosis strips and I have been checking each morning and I dont seem to be going past the level of Moderate on the chart. Anyone know why this would be? and How can I get it to the high level? Please Help. Thanks

    Re: ketosis

The ketostix are kind of like pregnancy tests. Either you are in ketosis or your not. The color of the stick does NOT measure the AMOUNT of fat you are burning....meaning a light pink vs dark purple shade means absolutely NOTHING with regards to fat burning. It's just the concentration of ketones in the urine. If you drink a LOT of water, like I do at 150 ounces a day (and sometimes more), my ketostix register only a light pink or sometimes negative because I've got so much fluid passing through my body. Yet someone who is burning the exact same amount of fat but not drinking a lot of water (less than 64 ounces per day) might be deep purple just because they don't have as much fluids passing through. Does that make sense?

Another thing, the ketostix register that fat is being burned. It cannot tell you if it is the fat off your butt that's being burnt or the fat in the bacon you just ate. So, if you test shortly after a high fat meal (30 mins or so) and register dark purple--that might just be the fat of the meal, not the fat off your body.

    That being said,

          Re: ketosis

The reason for not after exercising is that your body will use up all the excess ketones for energy...so you may test false negative.

The reason for not first thing in the morning is that we are all somewhat dehydrated in the morning. HOWEVER, weighing first thing in the morning AFTER the potty is a GREAT time to do that LOL

Just for interest (as alcohol isn't allowed in induction)... alcohol will give you a false positive too.
The stix are really just a guide. Many people have reached goal without ever having registered the slightest colour with them.

                Re: ketosis

yeah sometimes pink and sometimes purple that is sometimes upseting but it makes sence that it might be less consintrated urine to make a lighter color.
