Hello, My name is Lori, I am 41 years old and I just started following the adkins diet yesterday after several failed attempts of just winging it on my own and just trying to cut back. I have always been thin all my life however as I reached my late 30's I had a harder time maintaining that. I find it now very hard to lose anything. I have known others to do the Atkins and all had wonderful results. So here I am - I would love to lose 34 pounds total. I am so happy to have run across this support group. I look forward in watching others reach their goals as well.

Hello Lori and welcome aboard! Glad you're here with us and have decided against winging it all on your own. It's really important to have support and encouragement and here at ADBB we try to give just that.
Keep your goal firmly in mind and don't let others sway you.

Re: Starting Atkins
Hi Lori! Welcome to the board. Atkins is the best, it's healthy and keeps you satisfied. Can you pinpoint why you've failed in the past so it doesn't happen again? I can tell you that the support on this board is terrific for keeping us on the straight and narrow! Come around often.

Re: Starting Atkins
Hello everyone and thank you for such a warm welcome.
I do believe the reason I have failed is because I have never had to diet before - until the last few years due to my age/metabolism changing. When I started worrying about my weight gain, I was mostly told by others to basically cut back my portions and increase my exercise - in which I am fairly active with golf, tennis and go to the gym about 3 days a week. I have been unsuccessful at losing much weight and now I know I need to follow something specifically. I also have to admit that I am a carboholic.
I need to join Carboholics Annonymos! LOL
I am so happy to find this group and I am sure I will find the support I need here.

Re: Starting Atkins
Hello, I lost 5 lbs since I started Atkins - that would actually be 10 lbs total that I have lost recently which isn't too bad considering I cheated last weekend when we took a trip to Florida. I'm back on the ball again! The great thing is that a coworker of mine is also doing the Atkins with me - so helps keep me motivated also. I start tennis again next week - great calorie burner for me so I hope to see even better results the next few weeks. I'm still hanging in there - overall I feel great!

Re: Starting Atkins
I am so excited! I have lost 15 pounds total. Only 9 more pounds to reach my mini goal before we go on our cruise to the Bahamas. I had plateaued for the past 2 weeks but finally starting to budge again. Watching the scale go down and fitting into smaller size clothes has been enough to keep me motivated.

Re: Starting Atkins
Hi there - huge welcome to you from a fellow carboholic! One thing that is so different about Atkins is that it ISN'T a diet! I know that probably sounds a bit odd. It really is a way of eating. You won't be hungry and your cravings will subside as you go through induction. You know yourself what being a carb lover is like. It won't work if you decide to have "just a little bit" of that bread or cake or whatever. Really stick to induction and get that stuff out of your system. You will be so pleased you did - and your scales will show you that it's worth it. Lotsa luv to you.Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)
