  • 20 lbs!

    Hi,
I'm starting (again) tomorrow! I seem to be able to go 5-7 days then I have a MAJOR carb/sugar attack and eat everything in site. My hope is that by posting here and reading a lot I'll have the will and stamina to keep going.
Any helpful hints and recommendations are welcome! I need to lose 20 lbs fast.

    Re: 20 lbs!

I know exactly what you mean! When I did induction, after the first week, I had a major carb attack, too. A good friend kept me from jumping, head first, off of the atkins wagon. Then I started reading and posting on this board and it really helped.

I visit everyday to remind myself of my objective and to encourage myself and others along the way. So many on this board are successful at this WOL.

Don't we all want to lose 20 lbs fast!! lol But I'm sure you know that losing the weight is always an uphill battle. Just stick with the program and give your body time to adjust to it's new WOE. The weight may not run off of you like water, but it will come off and stay off. (And that's even better!)

My number one suggestion is to keep a food journal or track your foods on fitday.com or some other software. I have always blew this part of any diet off before, telling myself I didn't have enough time or it was too much trouble. But I have to admit, tracking my food in fitday has been one of the best lessons I learned on this board. It is easy to plan my menu for the day and KNOW that I am eating what is right.

    You can do it!

    4th mini goal- 179 lbs.

        Re: 20 lbs!

Hiya dd20 and welcome to ADBB! Glad you found us here.

I hope the board will help you push through your "end of week carb attack" this time. Many have found that posting/reading here is the factor that tips the scale in favour of success.

The longer you stay cheat free the easier it becomes to remain so. Try to focus firmly on the prize and imagine not how great it would be to eat some carby "treat", but how totally horrid you'll feel just two seconds after eating it. I can promise you that hitting goal is a thousand times better a feeling than a fleeting carby tastebud sensation is!

Think direction rather than speed. You don't have too much to lose, so it won't fall off as rapidly as it would if you had ten times the amount to drop. But go it will, for sure.

Post lots and keep us updated. We're with you all the way!

          Re: 20 lbs!

Hi DD! Welcome to the board. I agree with Sally. Each time you pass up on the cheating, you get closer to ridding yourself of cravings entirely. Take your time, read up on the rules of induction and you will be fine and healthy!

Thank you for the replies!!!! I like the ideas of "keeping your eye on the prize" and how hitting the goal will be a thousand times better than any carby food. I totally agree.

I picked up the book yesterday so will read up on everything. Thanks!!!

                Re: 20 lbs!

hey DD, welcome! I think keeping track of your foods will be a good idea: perhaps you had a bad craving after 7 days because something sugary sneaked in - like unsweetened ice tea or corn syrup or fructose or lactose or something, these things do have a habit of creeping into the foods you least expect it from. Also, my boyfriend was having trouble in the beginning because for him the carrot he had at lunch would give him a sp;ike in his blood sugars and he'd be hungry a couple of hours later with the taste for sugar.

Hope it goes well - am hoping to lose 30lbs reasonably quickly myself (for August 3rd). Maybe you should set yourslef a few mini goals or have some alternate goals such as measurements or dress sizes instead so you don't get to caught up in the number on the scale?

                Best of luck!
