  • Hello

My name is Julie, I am a 38 year old mum of 3 and wife to 1

In Oct '05 I gave up smoking, of which I am immensely proud but now just 19 months later I am ashamed to say I have gained approximately 30 pounds in weight. Following advice to not consider dieting until I had fully overcome my nicotine habit I finally began trying to diet in Jan of this year and to be honest I think it has done more harm than good because I haven't been able to stick to any of them and I even gained a few more pounds in the process

Having heard of the positive results of Atkins from an acquaintance I decided to purchase the books and have a read for myself, I began reading and this plan seemed to make more sense than all the others, that was on Saturday, it's now Monday and I feel motivated enough to start the induction today. How long this motivation will last, I don't know but today is a positive day and I am hoping that by being here with people who know what I am going through my positive attitude will remain.

So that's me, looking forward to meeting you all

    Hi Julie!

Another Hampshirean (is that a word? Probably not )

Welcome to ADBB! This is such a great place for motivation, ideas and sharing problems and successes. I could never have stuck to this WOL for so long without it.

It sounds like you're all clued up on the 'diet', well done.

Good luck with it and look forward to seeing you on the boards

congratulations on kicking the habit Jules - you must be so proud! it sometimes shocks me to hear people saying that they want to give up smoking but don't want to put on any weight, so they don't - as though the stigma of putting a couple of pounds on is worse than the stigma of being a smoker! sad, really!!

anyway, I am also on day 3 now (and also a 'Hampshirean'...!) so if you want anyone to share with, I'm here!

                  Best of luck!

                      Thank you

I have to admit that I had recently got to the point where I almost wished I hadn't given up smoking, I may have been stinky and inevitably going to die of lung cancer but while I smoked I didn't put on weight - yep silly and dangerous thinking which is why I decided I needed to do something now!

You say you are also on day 3, have you done this diet before?

Best of luck to you too
