  • Hello. New and excited.

Hi all. Was searching the web for Adkins info and found this wonderful site. I've been in ketosis for 6 weeks now and have lost 26 lbs. so far and need to lose another 40 to 45 lbs. I'm 51 years old and have been heavy since about 13 years of age. I've tried many diets and have even sworn OFF dieting forever. I was told that you couldn't do Adkins with diabetes. Boy was I wrong. While the 6 weeks have been somewhat frustrating (was stuck on 20 lbs lost for 2 weeks) my sugar has never been better. I WAS on twice a day glucavance (pill) and 50 units of Lantas insulin a day. My sugar still averaged between 140 to 150 BUT now I've been without a single shot for 5 weeks and my sugar is consistantly 110 to 120. Looks like I'm stuck if for no other reason that my sugar level. I hope this site can help me with recipes and tips on exercise and just general overall help and encouragement. Sure looks like you guys are just what I need. Sorry for being so long but like I said I'm excited and hopeful. Thanks for such a wonderful site. Darius (AdManPro2000)

        Re: Hello. New and excited.

WOW!!! Fantastic and congratulations on your weight loss and controlling your diabetes through this WOL. I see you were given the link for the food site which will help lots. Also under "Food and Recipes" category there is a place to ask for recipes if you need something specific.

If you haven't discovered it yet, if you look under the health heading, there is a forum for diabetics to share and ask questions of each other.
Again, congratulations and keep up the good work.

Hey Darius! Welcome to the board. YAY about the diabetes! Have you seen the diabetic forum yet? You may want to stop by there as well. Who told you this way of eating (WOE) isn't for people with diabetes? It's the perfect choice for keeping the sugars in check! it's working for you and I'm really glad about that! Good luck on the rest of your weight loss, I know you can do it!
