  • Hello, I'm new!!!!

I've been on the Atkins diet for 4 months and have had great success.

But over the past month, I have noticed my hair falling out pretty rapidly.

    Has anybody else experienced this?

    Thanks. :yikes

First, congratulations on your success so far. Can't tell from your profile or sig if you are male or female, but I have seen some thinning of my hair. Not falling out bald, but just changing from thicker hair to thinner hair. I have heard of it before, but it usually goes away after a few months. There are some supplements you can take to get healthier hair as well.

Thanks for responding so quickly!!! I am

a woman with usually very thick hair. It really falls out after washing and its freaking me out a bit, LOL.

I went to the doctor thinking maybe it was my thyroid as I read that can cause hair loss but all my blood work came back normal except for a low iron level so I'm taking a vitamin high in iron every day.

I don't want to give up this diet as I've lost 36 pounds but I don't want to be bald either, LOL.

Hi, Teresa! Welcome to ADBB! Sometimes quick weight loss will cause some hair loss, but it's only temporary. If your nose falls off, we need to have a talk, however.

welcome, glad you found us. Are you taking your supplements? I wouldn't worry about the hair loss either, its pretty common and grows back.

            Teresa,

            Hi and welcome to ADBB!

As for your hair loss. This is quite normal. Most dietary changes will cause
some hair loss. I lost some in the beginning..enough to make me wonder. But my Dr. explained than any changes dietary or even stress can cause hair loss. Ususally a month or even two months after the incident..
Relax...it will stop as quickly as it started. I haven't heard of anyone going bald doing Atkins...lol!!

As for taking Iron... if you are eating according to the acceptable foods list, you don't need to take Iron supplements. Dr. Atkins explains in his book 'Dr Atkin's new Diet revolution' That we get all the Iron we need in our protein's and veggie's that we eat on our plan.
An abundance of iron can actually be toxic to us. Check with your Dr. and see what he says about it.

Good luck to you..I look forward to reading all aboput your successes.

            Hugs,Tammy

I just sent you a Private Message with an article on Hair loss that was posted in the Women's Forum. This will give you some hope in addition to what others have posted. Look for the forum down the long list of them available and follow the directions to ask for access.
