Morning everyone! I am just joining ADBB but have been reading it for the past two weeks while I did 2 weeks of induction. I am happy to report that I lost 10 lbs. WHOO WHO!
So, heres my little story. 2 months ago I got the dreaded... ' you have diabetes' smack from my doctor... We have a horrible family history of people dying miserable deaths with diabetes with no feet, no kidneys, no vision left and stroking out... and still not dying.... just lingering on and on.... so sad. I was scared and freaked out. So, I started what I called the 'no, thanks I think I'll keep my feet' diet. Exersized everyday ate low carb, but only lost about 3 pounds .... well, my dad gave me the Atkins book... and said... 'please try this.' and so I did thinking ... it probably wouln't work but it is.... (Yeah! happy dancing.)
I have to say that it is not easy. I am so addicted to carbs. I miss them horribly. Like missing a best friend. not even bad carbs... like whole grain carbs... I cannot wait til I get to the point of being able to have some brown rice.
I also quit my stressful ER job and went to Urgent Care the day I started induction.... I think that is also helping me. I feel much less stressed and overall happy.
Anyways, Hi everyone. So happy there is this supportive forum.

Hi Liz - congrats on the 10lbs loss! I'm glad life is getting less stressful for you. You're gonna start feeling fantastic on this woe. Its amazing the benefits other than weight loss it brings.
    Good luck.

Welcome to the board. Goodness you went quite around two weeks ago, didn't you? Congrats on the 10 pound loss and the stress release (I hope anyways for the last one). It sounds like Atkins is the way of eating for life for you. Don't forget the much needed water, vitamins (check with your doc), and exercise

      Best wishes on your journey

Hi again, and thanks for responding, this is a very cool forum. I have never done anything like this... ever. How do I get my stats displayed? and do a personalized signature like everyone else seems to have?

Go into your user profile and you can edit your signature there. Thats where most people put their stats.

Wow! I can't believe real people are talking to me.
I just updated my signature and wanted to see how it looks. ha.
I feel like a goof-ball especially since the word amateur appears after my name.... lol... what an understatement....
new goal: have the word amateur disappear. lol.

Welcome Hopejoy! Glad you found us here at ADBB and are happy to be talking to real people! Yes... we're all real and all have the same objectives: Better health and a trim figure. I'm sure you'll find you make good progress towards those goals too.

Congrats on your losses so far and congrats to your father for suggesting you read the Atkins book. Sounds like he's done this before.
I'm willing to bet your blood sugar figures will improve dramatically in a short while and that if you stick with this way of eating, your feet will be safe!

Roam the board and see what's going on... plenty of fun and motivating stuff. Join anything that takes your fancy.

                  Happy Atkineering!

Welcome to the board Liz... It will get easier...and then there will be some days that you will want to pig out on carbs...and when that day comes...come and post and someone will try to talk you out of it..

My advice is to always have a plan

                      Hi sillygirl, sandyseachange, and sandy,
Thanks so much for the encouragement... I just wrote to you sandy off the Tuesday thread.... remember, we're going to be dancers when we grow up? lol! just like our daughters. You guys all look so great! I am so exited today to be doing this...
About my dad... he's 5'5" and about 110lbs.... he's so thin because he had tuberculosis at age 5 and staying thin makes it easier for him to breathe... everyone else on his side of the family has wt problem... diabetes etc... he's been after me for years to lose wt.... he just yammers on and on about atkins.... and i tried it once a few years ago but got so constipated I thought I would explode or turn brown.... anyways, this time around am taking flaxseed every am and wal-la
regular as... um... whats regular... the sun? the moon? yeah. pretty darn regular.
Ha! okay that's probably TMI. Anywho his wife, my step mom went on Atkins at the same time and lost 40lbs and kept it off for going on 3 years now. So that is prettty inspirational for me...
