  • Jumping in to the Pool!

Just saying hi to everyone on the boards. I'm starting induction today. I did atkins 2 years ago with great success. But then my mom got cancer and passed away, and my son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, and I stopped taking care of myself. I tried to restart this winter, but as soon as I started my sister (who lives alone) went into the hospital and I had to care for her and her dogs/house.

To make an already long story short, I want to get back into Atkins and walking before life happens to me again. I feel if I can get through the summer, I'll have established habits that will carry me through any emergencies.

I really miss how great I felt on Atkins. The weight loss was great, but I LOVED waking up WIDE AWAKE in the morning. I loved the mental clarity, my skin cleared, my joints didn't hurt, I wasn't *puffy* in the morning. That's what I miss. To me, the weight loss was just a side benefit.

So here's to a great summer (for everyone!)

Jenny hello and welcome! Glad you decided to re-commit to Atkins and to post here with us at ADBB.

Sorry to hear about all your recent trials. Life can really hit us some low punches at times. I'm sure you're right about thinking that in time you'll find the equilibrium to roll with the punches and not fall into the trap of eating for comfort. So many of us know about that... especially how easy it is to do. But the fact that you feel so much healthier on Atkins and the fact that you seem to be in this for the long haul will make you a winner in this sense, for sure. We're here to help if you feel your resolution waver. Use us!

        Happy Atkineering.

              Hi Jenny

It's nice to read your post about how much you enjoyed Atkins once before. I agree with all you had to say about it, and hope you can focus on that to keep your head in it this time.
Sorry to hear about your troubles...that makes things pretty tough when you're spent on energy for yourself. Come on in here when you're feeling blah, and someone will be here to pick you up and send you off all refreshed.
Hope to see you posting here and there.

Hi Jenny! Welcome to the board, and back to the Atkins lifestyle. I know that life can often get in the way of eating properly. It sounds like you're ready to carry on now after the stresses of the last 2 years. Best of luck to you!

Re: Jumping in to the Pool!

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. My hubby surprised me with a trip to atlantic city for the weekend for my birthday. Of course, it was right after I started induction. But what could I say??

So, I stuck with the buffet so I could pick and choose what to eat. I did drink though, so I'm not really counting last week as part of induction. I did start exercising though. One hour on the treadmill and some upper body work with a band. Doing that daily. I haven't gotten on the scale yet because I also got my cycle, so between the alcohol and that I figured there was no point.

I do feel terrific already. I'm waking up more alert, and I'm not asleep on the couch by 9pm. My waist is definitely shrinking. I'm starting to think I should just go by what I feel and forget the scale.

So here's to a great (and sober) week 2!

This pic was in 2005, I weighed 372.

This was taken October 2007, I weigh 375.

I was on atkins last year in the early fall and lost about 30 pounds. I obviously gained it back...but I know this is the right diet for me as it works very good. So I am back!
