  • First time on Atkins, I need so much help!

For the past 5 years I have been carrying around 30 to 40 unwanted pounds. I have been so depressed over the way I look. I have tried so many different diets and like alot of others nothing has worked. After reading the Atkins book, I think I can do this. Then when I found this website, I know I can do it with the advice of all the "pros" on ADBB. I NEED SO MUCH HELP....with meals and snacks. I am still learning so, please feel free to advise me.

Re: First time on Atkins, I need so much help!

    Hi O2bskinny,

First of all welcome to the board. It can be very overwhelming to start a new WOL but you've done well by reading the book and coming here

I would recommend reading the book again, particularly the bit about how to do induction. I don't have the book to hand but there are some pages on suitable induction menus drawn up - which is a great place to start.

Also go to the FAQ section on this site. It has stuff like these top tips for newbies:
    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6790

If you want your menu checking over post it in the 'Review My Menu' thread. Read as much on here as you can in order to learn from others.

If you have specific questions - look in FAQ, the forum for induction or ask us

My number one tip is don't eat anything not on the acceptable foods list in the book and do 2 weeks ultra squeaky clean induction - this will set you up to do well.

Also, you say you are down about the way you look - a lot of us can understand that. Losing weight is a great way to help with this, as is exercise which makes you view your body in a better light it terms of function, ability and strength. Check out the exercise challenges to see if any grab your fancy

Warm welcome to ADBB O2bskinny! You'll find this is a terrific place for support and motivation.

Baarb and Womentrip gave you great suggestions already, so I'll just add the importance of planning. At the start of your day, try to imagine where you might have difficulties and prepare... take legal snacks with you always, in case you're caught in a situation where there's nothing you can eat. Plan to make time for exercise. Plan when to drink your water (if you know you're going to be far away from a bathroom for a long time, save the drinking for after! Lol)... things like that.

Looking forward to reading of your successes!
        Happy losing!

Welcome. You've come to the right place for support and encouragement. Make a plan for yourself, what you'll eat, when you'll exercise and take your measurements. This is a life-style change, so be sure to change your thinking and your actions to get you to goal. The book is filled with case studies, information on how to make it happen. It really helps to surround yourself with others who have the same focus as you. The challenges, life/health issues and motivation you get here is fantastic. Post often and make lots of friends. Re: First time on Atkins, I need so much help!

Thank you all for welcoming me!!! I have my work cut out for me. I need to get my book out and plan my meals. There are so many things that are off limits during the induction. I am a yogert addict ...so far that is what I craving the most. (yogert & grape nuts) I just got through making my little boy a choc. milk shake and I didn't even lick my fingers (now that was hard). He is sitting across the room throughly enjoying it right now. BUT I have made my mind up....I will not cheat!!! Not intentionally anyway....last night I had a few nuts, I thought they were allowed during the inductions. oops!!! Needless to say, I have a lot to learn in eatting the Atkins way.
Again, thank you all for replies!!!!

This pic was in 2005, I weighed 372.

This was taken October 2007, I weigh 375.

I was on atkins last year in the early fall and lost about 30 pounds. I obviously gained it back...but I know this is the right diet for me as it works very good. So I am back!
