  • Hello!!

Hello! My name is Diane and I am brand new here. My husband and I started the Atkins diet on Monday. Although I'm finding it a little difficult (I love fruit), I feel better and smaller. I got on the scale on Tuedsay (Day 2) and was up 1.5 pounds. Is this normal? I stuck exactly to plan.

I would love to lose about 66.5 pounds by Christmas. Is this an unrealistic goal?

I have been enjoying these boards! They have been giving me lots of inspiration so thank you very much!

Congratulations to everyone for what they have been able to do so far. You are all very inspiring!

    Re: Hello!!

Hi Diane. Welcome to you and your husband. Everyone's weight fluctuates daily, sometimes several times a day. Its better to take your measurements and then re-take them again in two weeks. You'll be amazed at how many inches you drop. I love fruit too, and the great thing is that you can add it back into your WOE in the OWL phrase.

This is a fantastic place to get lots of info, support and encouragement. There's so many wonderful people who are willing to share their experiences and help you plan your success too. Get active here, make friends and enjoy the road to health and fitness.

      Hi Diane, Welcome!
I'm pretty much a newbie so I couldnt say if your goal was realistic or not, but it seems to me that people HAVE lost that amount in/around that time frame.

I know its hard not to jump on the scale everyday...But i think it really does no good. Weight goes up and down, and ya really dont want to lose motivation when it fluctuates.

Inches are better to track, and I think a weekly weigh in would be more accurate!

      Good luck and take care

        Welcome aboard Diane!
Ditto what Becky said. If you measure, you'll find that'll be a better guage of true weight loss than the scales which can be positively evil at times. So many factors can cause scale fluctuations.

        Happy losing!

          Hi Diane,

Welcome to the board. I am new too. Day 6 for me. This diet is amazingly easy, but I understand how you feel. I love fruit too. Just can't have it right now. Good luck to you and your hubby and I look forward to seeing you conquer your goal!

This pic was in 2005, I weighed 372.

This was taken October 2007, I weigh 375.

I was on atkins last year in the early fall and lost about 30 pounds. I obviously gained it back...but I know this is the right diet for me as it works very good. So I am back!

            Re: Hello!!

Hi Diane! Welcome to the board. Don't stress about weight flucuations, everyone is different. I would suggest to try not to go crazy with the weighing as it will drive you crazy! I don't think your goal is unrealistic, but keep in mind a goal is just that, a goal. You may go over it, you may be under it, but eating this way you will lose weight and stay healthy!
