  • Hello everyone, I'm new!

Hi my name is Mark and this is my first post to this bulletin board.

I started my Atkins diet on Feb 22, 2007, and I weighed 267 lbs. My current weight (as of June 14, 2007) is 234 lbs. I feel great on this diet. And for the record, I did read the book in its entirety... my proof is I know the "corrective unbalanced diet" inside and out.

    My History
I have an insatiable appetite. Before this diet, I would eat SO much food that I'm sure I would be unable to count it all. I was also wanting ice cream at least daily.

I've also been on the taller side (6'1") and the bigger side (+20-30 lbs vs. peers) most of my life.

Since starting Atkins, I've noticed that my appetite is way down (even though I took the book's advice to eat liberally at the start). I have zero cravings for bread, pasta, white flour. I am still very tempted by ice cream, so anyone with a good Atkins alternative for me would be immediately welcomed!

    Where I want to go
I'm new to the BMI calculation, so if anyone has advice/thoughts on it, let me know. My first goal weight is 226 lbs which according to the BMI index moves me from "obese" to "overweight". My second goal weight is 189 lbs (which I cannot even fathom!) to move me from "overweight" to "healthy weight".

I am really looking forward to this board...meeting people...sharing/learning...having fun.

    Until next time!

    Re: Hello everyone, I'm new!

    HI Mark and Everyone,

I am also new. I have been on the bulletin before, but have never been as serious as i am now. I am 5 ft 3, and at weigh in yesterday I weighed a whopping 207 pounds! I started Atkins yesterday, Wednesday, June 13, and I am very determined. I am packing my lunches, and snacks for work, so that I don't get caught up in the pizza, sandwich, thing that we constantly have around here. My short term goal is to reach 197 pounds by the end of induction. My next short term goal is to reach 177 pounds by my birthday in September, and long term goal is to shoot for 150 pounds. If it takes me longer, I don't mind, but if it happens sooner, I would be most grateful. I will keep everyone posted. Next weigh in Thursday, June 21.

      Re: Hello everyone, I'm new!

Oh yes. I forgot. It is helping me to stay motivated by posting to this bulletin. I also have a small journal where I am writing down every morsel of food, or drink that I put in my mouth. If you don't mind I would like to post my daily meals for everyone's review. If this is too much, please let me know. Okay here is what I had yesterday:

11:00 Breakfast----Salad with lettuce, cheese, onions, cucumbers, eggs, with Caesar dressing. (Believe it or not, Giant Eagles makes a brand that has no sugar and no carbs).

3:45 Lunch-----1 boiled western rib, small salad, same as above

6:15 Snack----Salad, same as above (I made a big bowl, and ate it throughout the day, same dressing)

10:00 Dinner---4 grilled chicken tenders, 1 cup of steamed broccoli, 1 meatball

I had 90 ounces of water.

I did have a headache pretty much throughout the day, and have a slight one today. I know I ate dinner really late, and breakfast really late. I work from 11:30am-8:00 pm. But I am trying to make myself get up early in the morning. I am joining my recreational facility today, so I will be up earlier, and will try not to eat a huge dinner after, 7pm. . Please help me with any tips you might have. I am open to any type of discussion. Thank you all.

            Welcome to ADBB, Mark!

Don't fret too much on your BMI. It really doesn't take into consideration body frame or muscle mass. We have several members here whose BMI is higher than it should be just because of all the lean muscle they have put on with exercise!
Doin' Atkins: Cuz my hips don't lie either.

Hi Mark! Go to this site:
              http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

You will need to do some reading around, but you can learn exactly how many your very own body needs to lose weight. It talks about BMI and all kinds of other topics related to this. Great reading!
