  • 2 weeks in and doing okay!

    Hello.

I started Atkins 5/31/07 and have stuck to it with only 2 or so cheat meals (really just added a little ice cream - never cheated the whole day). I've never dieted before, well - never really tried. I'm very active in sports and never worried about my weight. HOWEVER-I guess I'm to the age (Just turned 2 where I can't eat anything I want and expect to maintain my weight, so here I am!

I graduated high school and college somewhere between 150-155 (I'm 5'10) and before starting Atkins 2 weeks ago weighed 178 and hated it! Well, it's been 2 weeks on induction (with a couple cheat foods) and am currently sitting at 170! I went through the worst headaches... I work for a beverage company and work with the energy drinks and have a unlimited supply of them... Getting off the dependency of those drinks was the most miserable thing I've ever done. Didn't think I would make it. It was at least- at least - a week before the headaches started going away! I haven't touched an energy drink since!!!! Even though we do make an energy drink with only 3 carbs… I'm sticking with water ONLY!

My goal is to get back to 155lbs. Now that I'm 2 weeks in, I don't miss eating the carbs very much. Last night my husband had chips with our hamburgers and then made chocolate chip cookies for himself and I wasn't much tempted to eat either. The only thing I'm starting to notice is that I'm not really hungry at all. I DO love the way I feel. I usually only go to my kickboxing class once a week, this week I made it 3 times!!!

I'm going to stick to around 20 carbs another week to see what happens then I'll probably move to the next stage. Thanks!!

    Welcome to ADBB!

Congrats on getting back to 170lbs and kicking the energy drink habit. That must feel really good!

Try not to think of cheating as cheating. Think of it more as self sabotage. A cheat sounds innocuous and innocent while sabotage is more profound and destructive.

Besides, for every junky carb laden food you crave, there is 10 Atkins friendly foods that you can have without guilt, taste better and be much better for you.

All in all, you sound like you are going well and I wish you continued success!

Hi angfasz! Cheated already? Any cheat is a cheat and a sugar cheat is the worst! Great job on passing up the chips and cookies with your family. Feels good to pass it up, huh? The longer you hold out, the sooner you won't even want goodies like that! I sure don't envy you working with free energy drinks all around you, if you make it thru that you can make it through anything!
