  • Lord, help me!

Hi all, my name is Rebecca aka Lark. I used to weigh 215, found out I am allergic to gluten (wheat, flour, etc) lost 30 pounds immediately, and another 20 slowly but surely! My body paused (and so did I) at 165, so now I'm taking control. I have to fit into a bridesmaid dress that is one size too small for me by June 30, which I believe WILL happen. I started induction monday, 6/11 and have already lost 8 pounds. For some reason I thought it was ok to eat the Advantage bars because of the menu on the atkins site. I had two of them the other day, but not since-- and didn't seem to affect the weight loss so far. My ultimate goal weight is 135. I'm 5'7", very small frame... so i probably could get down to 120-125 but we'll see when we get there! Anyway, it's been really motivating to read everyone's progress and encouraging words. talk about "thin"spiration!

Hi Lark! Welcome to the board. Atkins bars are a definite no no in induction. They are loaded with bad things, including sugar alcohols. Even though they say 2 NET carbs, guess what, you're still eating the full amount of carbs in them because of the sugar alcohols. They're a quick fix and treat and the fact is, you can eat so many different foods, including legal sweets. So, really there's not reason to eat the bars! Great job cutting them out immediately! Best of luck to you! I'm sure you will look gorgeous in your bridesmaid dress!

Hi there Lark. Well ... you have a goal to work towards honey. Nothing like that dress hanging in the closet that's one size too small. Tantilising .. isn't it. I know it's tempting to reach out for the Advantage bars at an early stage ..... that will come eventually. For now ... you just keep thinking how STUNNING you are going to look in that dress. "Gorgeous you in your dress" vs "tempting sweet bar" ..... no contest. You have done so well. Well done you (giving you a big hug!). You just keep on keeping on. It will come off.
Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
      Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
      Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

        Re: Lord, help me!

Thanks sillygirl and GaynorA! I definitely have a sweet tooth, but I am doing alright! Finding pleasure in turkey burgers the past few days!

I made some chocolate mousse yesterday and that was good. i feel like dairy makes me bloated, so i probably wont get any more heavy whipping cream. I know it's better to just starve the sweet tooth, so that's what i'm going to do!

I'm a little nervous about the dress, as I have only 11 days til i have to wear it... it just wont zip about 3 inches in the back. eeeeek. I can do it! i took a break from exercising during the first week of induction, so now i'm going to step up my game and get back to my 60 minutes of cardio everyday.

i'm so focused on this dress situation, but yesterday I realized that I should be just as excited and willing to do this for myself as I am a dress. I'm gonna keep it going once this is all said and done because I'm tired of not being at my natural weight.

Thanks for your words of encouragement... means a lot to me!!

Lark - there is another reason to be careful of what we call 'frankenfoods.' They often have hidden sources of gluten. Even if they are small enough to not show up as carbs, depending on your allergy, they can definitely cause a reaction. I found that out the hard way!

              Welcome aboard and good luck!!!

Hi again Lark. I had a big smile on my face when I read your response. You have discovered the secret of life my luv. All of us who have had overweight difficulties have done the whole dieting for other people or dieting for other reasons routine. Good for you for realising that you are doing it for you!!! I think that is just fantastic. 'Cos the truth is ... you deserve it for yourself. You just keep believing in you. I once bumped into an old friend who used to be very overweight. She had shed a lot of weight. And I said: "Wow ... you've lost SO much weight ... you are GORGEOUS!!!" She looked me straight in the eyes and said: "You know what Gaynor ... I've always been gorgeous ... I just lost some weight!" I thought that was great. Because she wasn't being arrogant or anything like that. She had just realised that she was the same person ... just a thinner version. Best wishes.
