Hi all. GaynorA here from Cornwall in the United Kingdom. I've recently re-started Atkins (day 17). I lost a huge amount of weight in 3.5 months to have hip surgery (92.4lbs), 2 years ago. I went from size 24 to size 12. And then I met my partner, got FAR too contented with life, and have now got myself back up to size 18. So, I know what to do. And it's back on Atkins I go. This time, when I get down to goal, I am going to remember that it's a way of life and not a diet! My partner is doing Atkins with me. It would be lovely to hear from some of you who have also had to start again.

Re: Hello Atkins people
Helloooooo ... well, day 20 is here and I'm still going strong. Weight seems to be coming off slower this time around. Bit disappointed. I'm sticking within carb range (well within in fact). But, I'm wondering if it's because I've been put on different meds to control pain levels than I was on last time. Last time I took morphine - but since surgery pain levels are lower and I'm now on dihydrocodeine+paracetamol+asprin (in combination). Does anyone know if pain meds can affect weight loss. I'm trying to keep focussing on the fact that the scales are going down ... even if it does feel a bit slow. Started at 103.8kg and now at 98.2 kg. Any ideas?Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hi GaynorA,
Welcome to ADBB
I went to Cornwall in March this year - it was cold but very pretty.
It sound like you know the ropes, which is a great start - as is having someone to do this WOL with.
I'd afraid I'm not very clued up on meds, but different kinds do have different effects. Hopefully someone else will have a bit more experience on this. It could be worth reasking the question in one of the health forums.
Also, you're right, slow loss is still loss
Well done on the progress so far.

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hey Gaynor! Welcome to ADBB! It's great that you and your partner are doing this together. That will surely help you stay on track! You are so right, this is a way of life and the longer you eat this way, the more natural it will seem to you and you won't even want carby foods! Best of luck to you both.

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hello again. Through reading the board I have decided to make some positive changes. When I'm on Atkins my appetite goes away dramatically. So I kinda eat once a day. My weight loss is very slow at present and I'm thinking that my body thinks I'm starving it. so I've decided to try and eat 3 times a day. Today I forced myself to have some eggs for breakfast (I NEVER eat breakfast - even when I wasn't on Atkins). And I'm going to drink a lot more water. So that's my new mission. I'l let you know how it goes. luv to all.Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hi, Gaynor. I know I've interacted with you on some other threads, but I saw your intro and wanted to get to know you a little better. And, introduce myself too.
Sounds like you *KNOW* how to do this, so I'll offer you no suggestions there. I don't know the answer to your meds questions, but I am constantly amazed at the things that can cause bloating/water retention (hence weight gain or difficulty LOSING). However, that said, I wouldn't give up medications that your body may need! It's best to work with your doctor.
This was my second go-around with Atkins. Just recently made it to goal. Like you, I lost some on my first time and met my husband, got married and gained my way right up to 268 lbs. Shame onme! I returned to Atkins last year and have been far more successful this time around. I know all the places where I have trouble. AND, I decided to do it the right way, not MY way.~Joy
Start 1/2/06 Goal 6/11/07 restart 1/2/09
268.5/196/185
QUIT SMOKING JULY 23, 2006 while on Atkins

Just when you think you've eaten enough vegetables...EAT SOME MORE!

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hello there. Oh ... you look so fab in your pics. Gives me hope! Thanks for the message. I'm finding this board so great. It's really motivational. Yeah .. the meds! I can't stop 'em. They are the only thing that make it possible for me to work fulltime while being disabled. So .. we endure on. But I've realised that I'm probably not eating enough and not drinking enough water. So those are my positive changes for this week. Lotsa luv to you.Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Re: Hello Atkins people
Okay ... BIG decision time. I'm stuck at 14lbs. Sooooo ... I'm figuring ... time to give up the coffee. AAAAARRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. That terrifies me. So badly. I get the most AWFUL migraines when I try to quit coffee. I'm thinking I will wean myself down over the weekend. Then by mid next week I should be clear. Go back to induction - and then see what happens. Wish me luck. Actually ... wish my poor partner luck. Oh dear ... I suspect there may be a rampant bear with a sore head in the house.Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)

Re: Hello Atkins people
Hiya GaynorA and welcome! Nice to "meet" you here, though I've seen you posting around the board.
Second time around is usually slower...but the weight will come off. Think direction rather than speed. Meds also can have an effect on weight loss, so it's worth experimenting where and if you can with dosages/necessity etc.
Sounds like you know what you're doing and realise that if you eat too little you body will indeed go into starvation mode. Being aware is great... means you'll solve any little hiccoughs along the way, just fine.
Looking forward to reading of your success!
