  • Any unusual ideas? I'm SOOOO sick of meat!

Hello, people! I'm about 2 and a half weeks into this, and I'm already feeling like if I look at another piece of meat I'm going to scream! I'm eating my salads and veggies, too, and I've lost about 14 pounds, so that's not the problem, but I was wondering if anyone has any really unusual suggestions for me (Ok, so maybe I'm secretly dreaming that someone will say that a hot-fudge sundae is perfectly acceptable...ha-ha).
Before this, I usually only ate meat about 2 or 3 times a week most of the time. I feel like I'm on meat overload here. I know it's just something that takes getting used to, but it really is hard to break my old ways.
Just looking for some new ideas!

    Thanks,
    Kimberley

A hot fudge sundae is perfectly acceptable .....in BIZARRO LAND! Seriously, what about different types of meat? Meat in different shapes? I'm looking forward to making some meatballs later this week. Yes, sans breading, but I think they are okay for Induction. Also, what about veggie meals? Eggplant parmesan? Have you checked out the recipes from Low Carb Luxury?

I'm having a similar problem because I wasn't a huge meat-eater, either. I had to find things that I really like the taste of to make. Seasonings, herbs and spices make all the difference in the world. As well as the type of meats. For instance, for me, I can only do red meat once at week because I'm just not a huge fan.

Do you like taco salad? Try making it with ground turkey. Also, I've heard that mushrooms can be very good and filling.

That's about all I got, but I'll certainly post if I discover anything else that might be helpful.

When I get tired of meat I like to take cooked chicken breast and shred it and then fry it in olive oil till it gets crisp. It morphs the soft bland texture into something crisp and wonderfully chewy. Spice it up however you like.

Maybe you'd like some of Linda Sue's wonderful casseroles?

Nothing particularly unusual I'm afraid but when I find I'm getting tired of straight up meat I have salad with meat as toppings, Thai beef salad, Chef salad, even chicken salad or tuna fish salad. Takes the focus somewhat off the meat and I really enjoy it.

Also check out the atkins vegetarian links, just imagine what you would have when NOT dieting every week and find an alternative.

I was in the same spot you were during my third week. I went to Linda's low-carb site (mentioned above) and tried several of the casseroles. It was the same meat, but it tasted different and was a nice change!!

first Discolemonade you remind me of Amy Lee of evanescence in your pix (I can even see it in the first but a lot in the second one) good progress!

and as was mentioned taco salad. I live on that. I had it for breakfast this morning (leftover taco meat). Soooo good.

I can sympathize, and it looks like you got some really great suggestions. Something I frequently do is crustless quiches. Use your imagination for the fillings, serve with a salad and you have a light lunch or dinner. Also, don't forget about fish. A nice broiled fillet or Salmon, cod, halibut, ummmmm.

                      Good luck!

You can try tofu instead of meat. Also seasonings like Mrs. Dash, Sazon and Adobo spice things up.

Hey Kimberely! Welcome to the board. Are you a fan of tofu? It's a great source of protein. It's so bland it picks up any flavor you use with it. I like it with just a little Splenda and Cinnamon on it. Or fried up with butter and it gets all crispy on the outside! When you bump yourself up the food ladder, you will have more choices besides meat! Best of luck to you!

Hi there. he he ... so you are having a "meat moment". Don't despair. Have you tried fluffy omelettes. Whip up egg white seperately. Beat up yolks, fold gently into egg whites. And fry. They go up like a souffle. You can sprinkle some cheese on, finely chopped salady stuff. Very nice.
Also, try nuking a piece of fresh white fish in the microwave for around 2 mins on high, with just a splash of water (covered bowl). Make sure it flakes easily to ensure its cooked. Cook a bit more if needed. Then add some finely chopped chives and a splash of double cream, bit of salt and pepper. Then nuke again for a few seconds just to warm up the cream. Very nice with some stirfried finely sliced cabbage.
Crispy chicken strips. Get some raw chicken strips. Pat dry on kitchen towel. Beat up an egg white into soft peaks. Spice your chicken. Dip into the egg white and deep fry. Fabulous - you can make them really crispy.
Also you could try jazzing up your piece of steak. Fry some sliced mushrooms in butter. Add some cream - on very gentle heat. When warmed through, throw in some grated cheese. Ta daaaahhhhh ... a legal cheese and mushroom sauce. Even nicer if you add some finely sliced green pepper to cook with the mushies.
                              Hope this helps.
