  • hit rock bottom..

    Hi to all,
i went out and bought the Atkins book yesterday because i honestly thought that i was going to seriously damage my body if i did not stop abusing it. I don't even want to say what i ate yesterday - but it included 5 bars of chocolate...and i could have had more...scary!!! BAsically i have been in the throes of a carb binge for a long time.
My weight has fluctuated a lot over the years, from very thin to my current level which is the most overweight i've ever been. In my self-loathing and panic it has grown worse and worse over recent weeks, to the point of total obsession coupled with regular binges.
So i read the book, and realised that i have all the symptoms of hyperinsulism. I suspected carbs did not agree with me, as i have mild PCOS, but have not really acknowledged just how badly they affect me.
Today i started induction. And properly - any time i have done low-carb before, it was without truly understanding the science behind it. And i believe knowledge is power!!!
I also found this site today, and it seems incredibly supportive and motivational.
So i have all the tools, a lot of determination, and i never want to feel that sugar-poisoning again.
    Looking forward to it!

Welcome kittyd!! You've come to the right place. I remember that panic feeling and it's awful. You've started out so prepared, and that panic is soon going to be a thing of the past.

Kitty - welcome aboard! I think you'll find most of us on the board felt the same way you did. You'll find lots of support and advice here. Many of us have had health problems that are exacerbated by our high carb diets. Hang in there and look forward to the day when you can honestly say, "I don't need that junk!" It's just around the corner.

This time, its for good- these boards are a wealth of knowledge! The people here understand the science behind this way of eating and are always willing to answer a question, no matter how silly or trivial it may seem to you. This is also a great support--- I know I wouldn't have stuck with it this time around without ADBB-

Welcome You don't have to struggle along on your own here

Best of luck with induction. You'll probably feel kinda rough over the next few days but it will pass and seeing it through without a cheat is key - after that it will get so much easier.

Hey there Kitty D. It takes an incredible person to not only hit rock bottom, but do something positive about it. I hope you feel incredibly proud of yourself for making that decision. Have you given some thought to what brings on the bingies? I'm wondering if journalling might help. A chance to reflect on what your triggers are really - those things that are going on in your world that make you reach for food. I've only recently joined the ADBB, but so far I've realised that the people are incredibly supportive. So keep posting yeah?! Share your journey with us - the ups and downs - and we'll walk along the way with you. Lotsa luv to you.
