    Hello.

    My name is Kristen.

I have hem-hawed around here for a few days looking around before I finally decided to introduce myself.

I am 18 years old. And I am very heavy.

I am fed up with being heavy, having to shop at different stores, and being ashamed of going out to eat.

I admit it. I'm addicted to food. How can one limit something they are addicted to? a heroin addict isnt capable of only shooting up half the needles worth, the same as an alcoholic cant just drink one glass a day.

We need to food to survive and that is my downfall. I cant just quit eating.

I started this program about a week ago. (I come to you having just had a little slip up. ive had probably 50 carbs today.)

Needless to say My scale shows that Ive lost one pound, althought this could also be the clothes im wearing, or that my scale is just plain old. Never the less, it is a small victory, and that one pound is whats keeping me going into my next week.

now that I have succesfully rambled on for awhile, I'll let you go and commend you for reading this whole thing. also, Tschuessi!

    Kristen.

    Re: Howdy

Kristen...welcome. So happy you've introduced yourself and addressed an important issue in losing weight. We are all addicted to food. We all desire to be attractive and happy with ourselves. When most overweight people are unhappy, they eat to fill the void of what is upsetting them.

A clean induction will help rid you of the 'cravings' for the foods that are jeopardizing your weight. Food is important - but through changing your habits...you'll be able to control what you eat and not let it control you.

Being active here with others who are on the same mission to lose weight and be healthier will give you lots of motivation and inspire you to be successful. We're all changing our life-styles and striving to be happier and healthier.

Make a positive plan to succeed. Surround yourself with friends who will walk the journey with you. There are lots of challenges, recipes, posts and people here who understand and want to help. Keep posting and update often on how you're doing. We're here for you!! You can do it.

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Welcome Kristen. You're absolutely right. We have to eat to live, and that's what makes it so hard. The wonderful thing about eating this way is the cravings disappear. I've been on other diets that were so diffucult to remain on because the cravings took over in the end. All I had to do was look at something tempting, and I wanted to eat it! Not so with this way of eating. I can now look at food that would've made my mouth water in the past and I don't even desire it. It's amazing. To be honest, there are times I'm tempted, but it's rare. I hope you stay and learn to enjoy this way of eating and watch the pounds drop off of you. It will happen. Post often, and let us know how you're doing, or if you have questions.

Hey there K .... welcome to you!!! Well done on having the courage to start Atkins and to sign onto the board. If you are heavy at 18, you've probably done what most of us have and tried just about every "diet" going that promise quick weight loss. I was the same. Started as a premature baby, but made up for it in no uncertain terms - and was an obese child at age 5. Was heavy every since - every diet under the sun - till I discovered Atkins. The best thing about Atkins is that it isn't a diet. It's a way of eating ("WOE"). So you have to keep reminding yourself that this isn't like any diet - you can't just have a "small" piece of cake or something else high carb. Stick to induction girl and you will find the cravings going and the pounds falling off. We are here for you. Let us know how you are getting on. Lots of love to you.

              Hi Kissqueen,

Welcome to ADBB You put it well about food addiction. If you really stay away from those troublesome foods during induction they will lose a lot of their appeal - hang in there!

              Best of luck

Hey, thanks for all the support! I know I can do this. being fat is something new to me. I was pretty thin untill i was about 13. Then my mom got married and started having more kids, and I packed away the pounds. Im about 5'2 and already 250 lbs (yikes, thata hard to type)

I am new to the atkins thing, and i was wondering what kinda of veggies are acceptable. I went grocery shopping and didnt buy a darn thing cause i was so afraid it had hidden carbs or something!!!

I love Kohlrabi (something we eat a lot of here in germany) is that a no-no?

                and what are "net carbs"?

also, Id post a starting pic, but i dont know how o.O

                Any tips??

Hey Kiss, net carbs are total carbs - fiber = net carbs.

Kohlrabi I believe is okay to eat.
