  • Hello from Chicago!

I am excited to introduce myself to you all. I started a diet a week ago, just watching what I ate and I started exercising. I did that until I could find a life plan that was right for me. I have decided Atkins is the way to go and I am excited about what the future holds as part of the Atkins community.

This site will help me so much as I find that support is key and I don't get that much from my family.

I have about 80 pounds to lose. I am a mom of four and am done having kids and ready to start focusing on me.

I did WW and was ALWAYS hungry so after losing 13 pounds, I gave up and gained it all back and then some. I need something that will allow me NOT to be hungry.

      Welcome Jinx!

..I think you made a smart choice choosing Atkins, but of course I'm biased <lol> . If you haven't picked up the book yet, do so. Along with the forums on this site, you can get all your questions answered. Of course we have a great support system too
..The really great thing about this too, is you can start teaching your children a healthy way of eating, without all those highly refined carbs and high sugars. What a nice bonus.
..With the family, as you begin making low carb casseroles, basic meat dishes, using lots of fresh vegies (did you get a garden in this year? ), and fresh fruits available for the kids, they will start coming around to your thinking. Most families don't understand Atkins and only hear all the negative ill informed press about what they "think" Atkins is (and isn't)
..You will find if you follow a strict induction, your hunger will go away, and this will be easier. Also make sure you get plenty of water to drink, not the diet sodas so much.
..Good luck on your journey, and come here often for support or questions.

Welcome! I started out needing to lose 80 pounds, too. I'm halfway there and truly enjoy the Atkins lifestyle. Read the book, exercise and drink the water. Come to the board often, it really helps you stay on track. Good luck!

Hi Jinx! Welcome to the board. Atkins is a life plan, not a temporary fix. We eat this way to become heathy and slim. As you go along you'll realize that you don't even want carby foods at all! Best of luck to ya!

Hey there. Welcome to you. Great choice on choosing Atkins. I know WW can be effective too - 'cos I have friends who have really done well. But, I tried it, and I got so bummed out with weighing this and that and the RESTRICTIONS!!!! AAAAAARRGGGHHH. I just love Atkins 'cos it's so easy to do. You really can live this way, and that's the beauty of it for me. Other diets ... I just couldn't wait to get off 'em - and I always ended up bombing out way before goal anyway. Lotsa luv to you and all the best as you embark on your Atkins adventure.
Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
            Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
            Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

              Hi Jinx,

I am new here too (day 1). I was just doing WW and kept losing and gaining the same 20 pounds over and over. Then I started looking at all the processed products I was buying from them...and I realize I didn't want fake food anymore. Here I am and happy even on day 1.
