  • Hello from Montana

Hi all. My name is Dan, and I'm on day 6 right now. I told myself that I wasn't going to look at the scale until day 14, but I couldn't resist. So far I've lost 5 pounds. Pretty exciting.

So, a little about me. I'm 34 yrs old, 5'7 and started at 247.6 lbs. My goal is to get down to 155 lbs and fit back into my old army uniform from 15 years ago. Just joined the gym last week, and have been cardio'ing like crazy.

As odd as this may sound, I really don't have a difficult time keeping under 20 carbs per day. I really freak out about it in the morning and afternoon, but by dinnertime I find that I usually have only consumed about 10, so that's good.

My killer weakness is pizza. Wouldn't you know it, Pizza Hut comes back with their Pizzone? That's a tough one there. Another weakness of mine is potatoes. I love em. Vegi's are the difficult thing for me. The only ones I really like are corn and pea's...not good for Atkins. I've always liked fruits more than veggies, so I struggle without.

    Thats about it....good luck all.

Welcome Montanaman Dan, Sounds like you're off to a great start. Soon this woe will come naturally to you and become a lifestyle and not a diet. You might want to check out the food and recipe forum if you get the hankerin for pizza, there's healthier versions, crustless of course. I love this woe because of all the fresh vegies, meat and dairy we're allowed to eat. Also you might want to check out fitday.com to help you keep track of all your carb intake. I know it's really helped me. Post often to let us know about your progress. Lot's and lots of support here if you need it.

Welcome to ADBB and this WOE (Way of Eating) !

...You're going to find this a very easy WOE, very stress free. If you have been a meat and potatoes man, and love pizza, no problem. Check out the recipes, and you'll find Fauxtatos are pretty good. Don't judge the ingredients (cauliflower), but try them first. You'll be pleasantly surprised. During the BBQ season, I enjoy my meat and chicken grilled along with 1/4-1/2" slices of grilled veggies like zucchini, bell peppers, etc. I sprinkle them with some seasoning and grill to a soft/crisp stage... ummmm. Along with a salad, heaven!
...Now for your pizza. As mentioned above, try crustless. I take a pie plate and lightly spray it with oil. I then take sugar free tomato sauce (read the labels), season it with Italian seasoning and spread a thin coat on the bottom. Then layer your meats and the rest on your fillings on top. Bake and enjoy with a knife and fork or spoon. The toppings are the best part anyway, right .
...If there's anything you find you miss, ask. You might be surprised at what interprizing Atkiners have come up with
...Congratulations on a Great Start!! If you follow the plan, you'll fit into that uniform before you know it.

          Re: Hello from Montana

Hello there Dan... welcome aboard! Congrats on your success so far. Cool!

You'll find that this way of eating gets easier by the day. Cravings fade and appetite diminishes. Soon you won't have nearly the problem you think you might have when thinking of pizza and potatoes. Take it from someone who lives in a place where pizza is totally wonderful.

You'll discover some great alternatives and some delicious substitutes if you roam the food forums a bit. Also, the further along in the program you get, the more food choices you can add in. It might suit you to move to OWL (ongoing weight loss) pretty quickly after induction. Don't be afraid to move... you still get to lose (some lose even more in OWL, particularly on rung one, which is more veggies).

Try to focus on the delicious things you can eat, right from the start... there are lots and lots of wonderful fresh foods out there for you and the more you eat them, the more you enjoy them.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. We're behind you all the way.
