  • Hello...I am new...

Hello my name is Deb. I am so happy to be here because I get no support from my husband as he has been through a 100 diets with me (his words). However, we want to have a child and he refuses to try until I get to 199 because he thinks if we have a baby now I will die or he/she will. Wish me luck.

    Hi Deb,

Sorry to hear your partner is not being supportive - it is likely he'll change his mind when you start to slim down

But if not, or until then, this is a great place for advice, motivation and support.

I also wanted to say that though high weight is associated with problems in pregnancy there are many larger women who do have babies just fine - not that I want to make you think you needn't lose weight! But setting a weight is arbitrary - it depends on your height, health, how much you have to lose, etc.

    Best of luck

      Hello Baard,

Indeed, his 199 is arbitrary. However, I think he thinks that by then I will have the ability to be off any meds (I take glucophage).

Heya Deb! Welcome to ADBB. Nice to have you join us.

I know what it's like not to have much support from people close to you (me too)... but hang in there and do your own thing. If you follow the programme as it's meant to be followed it'll work and you'll feel so much healthier. When people see results they often change their tune.

Post often here for support and inspiration. You'll always find there's a helping hand to be had on ADBB.

            Happy losing!

              Hello GaynorA,

I am glad I found the ADBB because it is where I am going to have to come to get my support for a while anyway. I am hoping that once I lose enough that he will be on board (he weighs 315 himself).

                A email pal?

                Hello All,

I can certainly pop in here often as I work from home, but I was wondering if anyone would want to be an email pal?

Hi Deb welcome! Glad you've joined us. You'll get nothing but support and encouragement here. Join some challenges, make a plan to succeed and it will happen.

I also had a husband who wasn't keen on me doing Atkins, never said much as I dropped weight, but now he's a true believer and spreads the words to anyone who mentions weight loss to him.

Hang in there, get active and make friends with the other members who understand. Keep us posted and come here often for motivation! We're all here for you!

                    Becky,

Once your husband came around, was he supportive at home or just in public?

                      Re: Hello...I am new...

Deb...I think my husband had heard all the 'negative' stuff about Atkins so he was skeptical. That and the fact that I was always on a diet and never losing any weight probably had a lot to do with his lack of support. But, once I became comfortable with the program and the weight loss was noticable and he realized that I was really going to stick to it...he became supportive at home and in public.

I think that sometimes it is hard for our relatives to say much when we start a new weight loss plan simply because they've seen us attempt so many times before and fail. I was always on diets, but I didn't make solid plans to succeed like I did with Atkins. This time around, I prepared myself and changed my old habits with healthy ones...so I learned to live this woe instead of giving up after a few weeks as I've always done in the past.

I've found that actions speak louder than words...the best way to win people over is to do it and let them see the results. You'll make it happen. Hang in there with the people here and get active in the forums, challenges, new recipes and change the old ways into healthy positive ones.

hey Deb! Welcome to the board. Your husband cares about you! The prospect of having a baby is certainly incentive to lose some weight so you can both be healthy. Post often so we can watch your results!
