  • coming to you from Vermont!

Hi everyone. Today is Day 2 for me on the diet. i love the fact that i am not hungry on this WOE. ive tried every diet known to man. and i always wind up gaining tons of weight. i have Binge Eating Disorder (really REALLY bad), and trying to stop that...with this diet. i used to be anorexic/bulimic as well. my BED has caused my to blow up til 140 pounds at 5'2. i USED to easily maintain around 110 or less because I have tiny bones and a tiny frame.

I actually have lost 5 pounds so far...by trying to not binge all the time. I am about to get my period any second, which is a reason why I am carrying about 5 pounds of extra water weight. I have been on Atkins since yesterday and I did great yesterday...lost 2 pounds overnight!

A few family members of mine have done this diet, with GREAT success! So now its my turn.

1 question...i bought whey protein powder, its 100 percent whey protein, no sugar, and only 1 carb. its sorta nasty but there's 18 grams of protein in it. I'm assuming this is OK for induction? Many websites I found said it was FINE. so i went ahead and tried it yesteday.

What do ya'll think bout that?

Also, I leave for Germany in a week. I need help with what to eat there.

    Thanks everyone!

Hello and welcome to the boards. Congrats on the 5lbs so far. It must be tough dealing with BED as well as everything else. Maybe you should think about starting a journal - somewhere to say how you feel and deal with your emotional needs as well as physical.
Fraid I can't answer the question regarding whey protein powder. I don't use it.

    Good luck.

Re: coming to you from Vermont!

Welcome. As far as the Whey protein, I believe the answer is NO it is not allowed during induction. Now of course the websites are going to tell you that it is, to get you to buy their product. It is made from soy (once again, I believe what I'm telling you to be true) and therefore not allowed until later rungs. Also, that word you keep using, (the D word) is really bad around here.

This is a way of life. A way of living, not a quick fix loose a few pounds weight blotchers, Jeremy Craig, or North Shore Diet. (couldn't resist hhaha)

Re: coming to you from Vermont!

Warm welcome to the board! Glad you joined us. Congrats on the 5 lbs lost so far. You said it right: It really is your turn now! I'm sure we'll be reading of your successes very soon.

Best to stick strictly to the induction food list during the first two weeks. Eat only what's on the list and nothing else. Time enough to add in other stuff when you get to OWL (ongoing weight loss). You'll find that eating correctly for a few days will cause your appetite to diminish, which will help with binge eating.

Also... always keep a high fat snack handy for those times when you might get caught in a situation where there's nothing legal for you to eat.

Best wishes on your Atkins journey!

Re: coming to you from Vermont!

thanks everyone for the responses!! well about the protein shakes...my protein is made from 100 percent whey protein isolate and no soy. so i think that makes a difference? anyhow...im not really doing INDUCTION...perfectly. why? because firstly, right now, im trying to recover from the BED. If i put myself into too tight restrictions, i KNOW i will binge. so if I want a protein shake, and it works with the 20 grams a day thing, then i'll have it and not obsess. The reason why I'm doing this plan is to not obsess anymore...(plus i love REAL cheese (not any of that lowfat crap!).)

Also...in 1 week from TODAY...I will be going to EUROPE! So...firstly, I want to try and be carb friendly there, but I also want to experience the food, as part of the culture..because afterall, it is part of life there. I will stick to mostly the diet overthere, but I won't be guilty if I have some real European wine and beer occasionally, and some of their regional specialities and desserts. A few bites wont kill me. And thats another big reason why I think its important for me to not be PERFECT now..cause I dont want to gain all the weight back when I go there next week. With that said, I think right now, the best thing for me to do is do phase 2 of Atkins. Considering the consequences. When I get back in 4 weeks, I can easily do the plan FULLY as INTENDED. see? ( I will be ready to perfectly start on July 28th or 29th)

Airplane food...I'll make sure to pack cheese sticks, nuts, jerky, and raw veggies. lol

but thank you all for your input!!!! great support here, I see. its too bad I didnt start this diet sooner! (i was too busy ruining my body by binging everyday on 10,000 calories of carbs and sugar...no lie)

                  take care everyone! good luck!

Hey singer, welcome to the board! Wow, sounds like a nice vacation coming up! Congrats on your 5 pounds lost so far. Have you seen the DANDR book? It is important to do a clean induction for the first two weeks. That was you will completely rid your body of those carbs, which cause the cravings, which make us binge! I would highly reccommend you pick up a copy to read on the flight. you will be surprised at all the terrific information you will learn.

Re: coming to you from Vermont!

Hi there hon - welcome to you. I don't have the BED difficulties, so I can't really offer any insights on that. But I do know this. If I mess around with induction by eating bits and pieces of high carb stuff or having high carb alcohol, it actually CAUSES cravings. I'm not kidding you. Atkins doesn't really work like other diets. It changes your body chemistry into burning ketones, which is why it works so effectively. But it can't do that if you eat high carb stuff. So when people talk to you about a clean induction, they aren't being mean or anything - it really is the only way to turn your body into a fat burning machine. Does anyone else who has struggled with BED find that when the cravings go away through induction, the BED becomes more controllable? I'm just curious really. Anyway ... all of the best to you. If you are going on a fabulous holiday for a week, I'm wondering if it might be better to set a date to start induction when you get back. I don't want you getting all stressed out while you are trying to enjoy yourself and then messing it up and getting into that whole guilt cycle thing. We've all been there. Lots of love to you.
