Hi everyone! I've been viewing this website so often over the past few weeks that I thought it was time I joined!
My name is Wendy and I just turned 38 years old. I am married and have a little girl who is 5. Up until my early thirties I was relatively slim and would occasionally follow the rules of the original Atkins book to bring my weight back in line when I needed to, but low carb was not my general lifestyle.
After my daughter was born I started gaining weight steadily even though I hardly ate at all. Over the past year I piled on at least 25 pounds of this extra weight. I finally went to the doctor a few months ago because of a bronchitis infection and he scolded me for not having a checkup in over four years. So he ran my bloodwork and lo and behold we discovered that by thyroid gland had completely stopped working. It's taken a few months of adjusting the dosages for my medicine, but finally on June 5th by blood tests came back normal.
That's when he gave me the all-clear to start dieting. When I asked him what he would recommend I was thrilled to hear him say "Atkins. That's the only one I recommend. It works. You can eat."
So, three weeks later I'm down 9 pounds. I hate to admit it but I should have lost several more - if I had followed the rules about no alcohol! It was a big deal to give up my glass of wine while I cooked dinner everynight, but at least I replaced it with Rum and CokeZero. I also had a few glasses of that at my birthday dinner. But now, I've put that behind me because the pleasure of one drink isn't worth the "postponing" of fat burning!
