  • Start of a new life day 5

Hello, im a 27 year old female who has struggled with weight my whole life. The highest weight i have been is 272 but that was at a week before i had my son i only gained 2 lbs with him i was 270 when i got pregnant. then 6 days later i went to doctor and was down to 232lbs. and shot up....most of the after pregnancy was my fault, i was caring for him alone and ate like food was a friend. Then struggled to take it off and ended up with a eating disorder that has been a part of my life to lose weight since i was 16.
I went to the Doctor tuesday morning to start clomid, I was there 6 months after i miscarried at 7 weeks. He was "proud" of me for losing 10 lbs i weighed in at 239 i was like No... dont be happy for me i have lost more then that. I was 214-220 just 2 months ago. I said nothing has changed either. I really watch everything i eat i count every calorie i eat 1200 - 1300 a day plus do exercise and this is what happens i hit that "Magic number" i get on the scale and im gaining. He then told me i was insulin resistant another symptom of PCOS. So im on Metformin and just finished 100mg of clomid yesterday. He then said "atkins" I said Nooo i cant do that. He asked why and i told him i love bread and fruit way too much. The he just looked at me and i KNEW right then i HAD to do this. He said it will help pcos and fertility and weight and just about every part of my life. And after i got pregnant (he didnt say if!!! ) He would put me on a modified atkins.

So i leave and im pumped, But scared, what if i fail what if im hungry, what if i cant stay away from bread, fruit... and so on.... I did research on the computer I wasnt going to waste money on buying the book if i can find stuff online. Ive spent so much money on "diet" things that didnt work, what if this is the same. Thats where i found you guys Ive been lurking here since tue afternoon. then found this on tube tv yesterday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmRaD683OXU&mode=related&search=

I watched all of them! this man is wonderful and amazing he inspired me! All of you inspire me. You know what i CAN do this I WILL do this!! I ran to walmart then kmart no books anywhere. Then i called our small town book store and they had it! but they closed in 10 mins, I raced there i ended up buying the new revolution AND its companion Essentials. I had my nose buried in that book till chapter 12 then went to the other, I have been on the Indution 5 full days (1st day i ate fruit and had a mt dew before my doctors apt 62 carbs in morning...but after apt i had 25 total 87, that was better then saying shoot ive already passed the 20 ill start tomorrow.) i have kept my carbs under 20 , I drink ALOT of water.

I have lost 6 lbs in those 5 day!! I know 98%is water but so what i will even out, oh bought the ketone test strips on 4rd day and they were at the 15 range is that good they were a med pink. but that is without working out at gym i read it helps. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I cant wait to meet new friends that i can walk thru this journey with.
Also i had to force myself to eat yesterday becouse i forgot! i have not been hungry since day 3. this whole program is amazing!

Elly... warm welcome to you! Glad you found us here at ADBB.

It's so nice to read of doctors recommending Atkins. Sounds like you have a good ally there already.
You're off to a great start... congrats on your 6 lb loss! Well done!
Also good that you got a hold of the book. Understanding exactly how and why Atkins works is a huge help towards making healthy food choices.

I think that pretty soon you'll find your appetite will diminish and your energy increase. You'll feel great (hopefully you won't get a bout of induction flu) and find that eating this way gets easier and easier.

I started without any real intention of making Atkins my lifestyle change...but it just happened naturally and I ended up surprising myself. I've no intention of going back to my old way of eating and truly no longer miss it.

I just know that your health issues will improve steadily as you stick with Atkins. It has for so many of us, including Kent, whose U-tube videos you liked so much. They're great, aren't they?

Keep posting so we can cheer you along the road to your goal. We're rooting for you!

Im full of energy... my fiance is shocked ive been up before 7am every moring normaly i dont get out of bed till 9 or later on weekend. Today he left for work at 6am but i still got up at 6:45 without an alarm. Plus the scale is still going down! and ketones test last night was at 80. He thought i was nuts, im like look honey look its purple! he asked if thats good or what i said yes and had to explain and had him take one and it came back neg. He said that was a good thing.
Now there is one thing i have been doing and thats drinking flavored water one a day and not counting it as a water. Could i be ok with still losing?

Thanks for the welcomes. You both look great. I know it will be a long road to my goal pics but i will do it.

Congrats Elly on your newfound energy and the downward movement of the scale! That's wonderful.

Not sure quite what you mean by flavoured water. We have rather different products over where I live. If the flavouring is with sugar, then of course that's a big no-no. If it's flavoured with something like Da Vinci syrups, that would be better. But flavoured water of any type doesn't count towards the minimum of eight glasses of water (or more) we're supposed to drink daily.

thanks for all the welcomes and advice!.I have never been this excited about losing wight and sticking to it without a cheat. Today makes a week ive been studying it.

The water im drinking is clear american (sams choice walmart) why i have questions is it does have aspartame in it. And i dont count it as a water. right now the scales going down about a pound a day so do you think im one of those that isnt effected by it? i also fill the bottle up 4 times with tap water and its a 33.8 oz bottle.

Also I go back to the doctor the 17 that would be 3 weeks from start im doing indution till then maybe longer depending if im pregnant or not, i dont think i will be but who knows.
thank you again for being here for me.

                  Welcome to ADBB!

You really should avoid the aspartame in favor of pure water. Even if it doesn't cause you any problems in the weight loss department, it is pretty detrimental to your health. If you must have something with an artificial sweetener, do your best to find one with Splenda/surcralose or stevia. It does seem that you are getting adequate amounts of water, otherwise.

I am so glad you decided to buy the book rather than take all of your info from the internet. I've read it three times and each time, found something new that I hadn't remembered from the last time. I plan on reading it a fourth time before summer's end. As long as you follow the book, you can't go wrong. You are getting it straight from the horse's mouth and not from he said/ she said.

Stick around and become a full time ADBB member! Start a journal in the journal forums - we have all kinds of (and sometimes too much ) fun in there!

Any hints on flavored water that i can drink? I will give it up if its what is best there no questioning that.. I tried putting lime in the water its just nasty to me but i do need a little of flavor now and then. I just dont want to get bored. Thanks! ill start to journal. I think that will help a little

Ditto what Paula said about the aspartame Elly. Dr a advised strongly against it because of it being so bad for you. Sorry, it's hard for me to recommend any alternative brands of flavoured water. Living in Italy, our products are different.
I do like slightly fizzy water with a little lemon juice in it on hot summer days...very occasionally slightly sweetened with saccharin. I don't count it towards my daily "water" though.

                      Happy losing!

Elly, welcome to the board. I'm eager to watch what you were referring to on YouTube. Your determination is infectious, I have read the book a few years ago, lent it to a friend and voila, I haven't had it since. Perhaps I need to get another one, I'm sure there are things I have forgotten about.
I'm curious about the flavored water too. I have been drinking the Sams Club strawberry flavored water, I can't tell though if its stalling me or not.
