    Hello ppl

    I would like to know if anybody drinks alcohol on this diet??? and if so which kind and how does it effect ur weight loss???

    personally it doesnt affect me - not the alcohol but the stuff i add to it

    i.e Club soda or diet coke - if i drink vodka or wine straight, i'm good to go

    however do remember that your body will burn alcohol before it burns any fat, so your weightloss WILL slow down and if you dont exercise, it can cause problems


    the majority of people on this board will tell you alcohol is a no-no and that it stalls them, i guess im just kinda lucky!

    I do however recommend that you move up the Ongoing Weight Loss ladder and only try alcohol when you get to the appropriate step!

      I don't drink, but rung #5 in OWL is the alcohol rung. You can drink Wines, low-carb beer and other alcohols. Emma was right that the alcohol may slow your weight loss, so be sure to do it in moderation. Atkins isn't about giving up everything in your life, its about finding out what works and doesn't work for you and adding things wisely back into your life so that you don't regain the weight. Get comfortable with Atkins and don't fight it. Once you know how different things affect your body, you will continue to enjoy your life-style and keep the weight off.

        thanks for the advice...I'm not really sure how much ive lost...I weighed myself on a friends scale that changes everytime u get on it lol....but it said i lost only 7 pds in 2 weeks....but my belt was on the first hole when i started now its on the 4th!! I had drank the first weekend I was on atkins but i drank vodka and water.

          Hey deek deek, welcome to the board! Straight alcohol doesn't have carbs, but will momentarily stall you. I agree though that's it's better to wait, bump yourself up the rungs in order and not drink until you hit the alcohol rung, which is cause for a drink when you make it that far!!!!

              Hey there hon ... from my understanding of Atkins, if you drink the "permitted" stuff (e.g., vodka) you shouldn't actually put ON weight ---- but your body goes ahead and burns the alcohol for energy instead of burning your excess weight. That's why you don't lose anything. That's the Gaynor simplistic version of the facts!! (he he). I tend to avoid alcohol because I don't want to give my body permission to burn NUFFINK but my fat. And I kinda think ... well .. you know ... I would put so little in anyway just to be on the safe side, I might just as well have a fizzy water with lemon in it really. And just get high on Atkins energy instead. Grinning. WELL DONE on your 7lbs. I had a big grin when I saw you say I ONLY lost 7lbs. Most people on other diets would give their eye teeth to lose that much in such a short space of time. Celebrate the victories luv.
              Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
              Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
              Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
              Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

                  thanks for all ur advice...i think im just gonna stay away from it for awhile...but i love to go out and dance and party with my girls and that usually involvse drinkin..but like i said ill give it a rest..besides ill have alot more fun drinkin at the club when i look good lol
