  • why dont my scales like me ????

this is bizzare , my scales hate me !!! I have just completed my 2wk induction , followed it to the letter yet my scales say "no you are still as fat as 2 weeks ago" dissapointed ?? YES ....... BUT and its a big BUT my clothes size has gone down I am now back to my UK size 12 from a 14 HOW CAN THIS BE , i have very obviously lost weight so can you explain to me where the fat has gone if i havent lost it, has is somehow redistributed itself into my hands feet knees ?????? its gonna drive me nuts if i dont find out.

other than that i have read the book 3 times and it really does make a lot of sense, especially the chapter on Insulin. The plan isnt causing me any great hardship, in fact its quite nice being able to eat foods i havent touched for years, and although i havent had a massive energy rush i do feel a lot better in myself, so i'm gonna continue with the program.
If i reach my target size 10 clothes and am still the same weight as i started i will go bonkers !! LOL

i just saw that in the book last night , says to take measurements because sometimes the scale doesn't always let you know you lost but measurements and clothing do , good luck! and congrats on finishing Ur 2 weeks. Are you going to say on induction or move to owl?

Are you working out, too? A bit of it may be new muscle that weighs more than fat.

Most will tell you here to ignore the scale and go for inches lost.

Hey Roo! Welcome to the board! Perhaps you could go over to the review my menu forum and enter a few days of exactly everything you ate and someone can spot an area that needs adjusting. Without knowing exactly what you ate, it's hard to tell. BUT, it does sound like you've lost inches! Measure yourself today so you have something to go by in the future.

You can check out www.fitday.com. This is a site where you can log all your food so you can see where your calories/fat/protein/carbs are coming from. You can log exercise and weight changes there too. Lots of us on board use it, and I find it extremely helpful!

Inches are what matters, the measuring tape never ever lies. People don't know the number in your weight unless you tell them, but they do notice when you are shrinking. For most of us the scales cause a lot of grief more times than not. If your clothes are getting loose, then you know you are getting smaller.

I agree with Terry...its probably registering the muscle weight that is replacing the fat. Hang in there, the scales eventually will start moving down.

Consider too where you are in your monthly cycle - I just learned from other members today that their weight fluctuates as much as 4-6 pounds just before & during their monthly cycle. I'm guessing it's due to water retention? Anyway, the fact that your smaller clothes now fit again is fantastic! It IS working so keep it up!

this may be what is happening. When your body is using fat for fuel it temporarily fills those empty fat cells with water . So even though you are burning fat and shrinking in size ,those scales wont budge until your body releases a certain hormone that signals the body to release the stored water from those cells. Then ,VOILA the Whooshie FAiry comes to visit and you will notice a sudden drop on the scales. I find that i get a visit from the whooshie fairy about once every 3 - 4 weeks. IN the meantime I try not to take much notice of the scales as they can fluctuate quite a bit on a day to day basis. Goodluck!

Re: why dont my scales like me ????

Welcome roo! Glad to have you with us here at the ADBB.

I'd ditto everything people have already said about the scales vs. the tape measure, water retention, muscle weight vs. fat weight and monthly cycle. There are just so many factors that affect the scales, whereas the tape measure and the way your clothes feel are reliable indicators. Sounds to me as though you are doing fine. Soon your scale will catch up and you'll see a sudden loss.

Don't worry. You're not alone. Many people have started this way of eating with little or no scales loss at the beginning... and yet they've made goal without problems.

Hang in there! I'm willing to bet that all you need is a little patience with the scale.

Re: why dont my scales like me ????

many thanks to all of you who replied. i did read the "scales versus tape measure bit in the book but somehow my brain just didnt compute!! LOL
I never realised about the cells filling with fluid so maybe thats an option to consider. As far as my monthly cycle goes i dont exactly know where i am with that one as i had a hysterectomy just over 2 years ago and my ovaries although left behind have started the slow wind down to old age !! ha ha
Oh and Whats "exercise" !!! i work hard enough as it is LOL, seriously though "No" i havent been working out so thats the muscle theory out.
I am staying basically with induction but moving up by a couple of grams of carbs per day instead of 5 at a time. Maybe i'm not eating enough ???
I am gonna stick to it though as i do feel in "control" for the first time in ages.
I have always had a hate , hate relationship with scales and many sets of scales have met with an untimely end, (usually i throw them down the stairs if they dont say what i want ) so this time (from now on) i am gonna weigh once a month instead of once a week. Thanks again for all the advice and i'll keep you posted on any progress i make.

Some people who have had trouble losing weight have found out they had yeast problems. I'm not saying you do, but you might check that out in the book. There's a spit test you can try to find out.

Glad the inches are going! Welcome aboard.
