  • Ready to start the real thing

    Hi everyone,

I'm a 27 year old german girl (mh going for the 30, so maybe not really a girl anymore) living in the Netherlands.
I've been reading this forum for the last 3-4 days and after having done what you could call "atkins-light" last year, I now decided to go for the real thing.
I've done a low carb, low fat, high protein diet last year and lost 8 kg (hope you don't mind me using the metric system ) in 6 weeks.
Started with a weight of 95 and ended up with 87, so that was nice.
Then I went on holidays to Greece and surpisingly enough maintained that weight even though I haven't been eating very little but real greek food is more meat and cheese and veggies than pizza, pasta and fries.
Unfortunately some time around October/November I started to rediscover my love for sweets (especially Maltesers, if you know them) and chips and pizza and pasta and gosh I LOVE potatoes and bread.

Well anyway until March 2007 I had gained the 8 kg again and had to start this whole thing all over.
I've done my "atkins-light" diet kinda on and off since April and did get rid of the 8kg I had gained again +1
And now I haven't lost a gram for the past 2 weeks and I know it doesn't always go that fast and since I've gone to the gym twice a week for the past 2 months I might have gained a gram or 2 of muscle but...bah my way just didn't feel right anymore.

So I came here and read and read and realized I hadn't really controlled my carbs, I didn't eat a lot of them but I couldn't have told you how many I had on any given day.
I read about fitday here and registered and entered my food on the 3rd of July.
I started induction yesterday and so far stayed clean lol....nah I don't really think it'll be a big problem...I just have to ignore the cookies my colleagues eat at work, the pizza my boyfriend eats every day and the thoughts of having a Whopper at BurgerKing (aaaaaaah!!!!).
My current weight is 85.5kg and I want to make that a 75kg until the end of August (going to Greece again).
I've bought what I call the Goal-bikini and I want to wear that thing in Greece....and look good in it!!!!!
I don't have a clue if that goal is unrealistic but you can't blame a girl for trying

Now that's enough for me and my novel, just wanted to say hi and that some results I've read about and seen here are really inspiring
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

      Thanks
I'm determined not to cheat and have a pretty good plan laid out already...I think.
I just need to work some more veggies into my food plan but I'll take care of that when I go to the supermarket later.

Welcome Sera! Good to have you join us! Congratulations on your excellent English, by the way.

I'm sure you'll find that the longer you stick to the plan, the easier it gets. Don't be in a hurry... think direction rather than speed (though you might indeed manage your August goal - hard to say, as everyone loses at different rates). Also try to think of this as a lifestyle change, rather than a diet. Eventually, you won't miss all those carby things nearly as much as you think. There are so many wonderful foods you can eat and these become addictive more than malteasers even! (I used to be a malteaser addict too!)

Best wishes on your Atkins journey. We're rooting for you!

Re: Ready to start the real thing

Hey there. Welcome to you. So glad to have you with us. Yup ... I hear you on the Maltezer and Whopper fronts. Can't do much about the Maltesers (but there are fab low carb recipes for legal deserts - see recipe section). Now the whopper we CAN do something about. Make yourself a big old burger out of minced beef, herbs, egg to bind. Pack meat really tightly - helps if you wrap in cling film and set for a while in fridge. Then fry it and use lettuce leaves instead of burger bun. Lay burger on lettuce, top with cheese, tomato, lashings of mayo - then wrap the other end of lettuce all the way around. Really helps overcome burger cravings. You'll find you don't miss the bun. It's a real fun food. Very drippy - makes you feel like you are having a fast food fix. Enjoy!!!! Lotsa luv to you.
Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
                Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
                Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Re: Ready to start the real thing

Thanks for the warm welcome you guys, I get the feeling the whole atmosphere here can actually help people to stick to THE PLAN and get through the tougher days

And thanks for the compliment on my english sally, you won't believe it but forums and chats have helped improve it over the years.
I probably wouldn't even have my current job if I hadn't been such a forum and chat addict in the past and I still hear my parents tell me that the internet wasn't good for me

That burger recipe sounds pretty good, Gaynor, thanks for that.
I'll definitely try that when my whopper cravings come to visit me.
I'm just glad there is no Burger King close to where I live, makes it a lot easier to stay away from it.

I just did my first propper Atkins-shopping and I don't think I ever bought so many veggies at once and what is all that sugar doing in sour cream and creme fraiche??? Very frustrating that stuff, I'll stay away from it during induction, I think
