  • Yet another newbie...

    Hello Everyone:

I am new to this site, but not to Atkins. I picked up the Atkins book in 2003, read it cover to cover; started the program and noticed I'd lost weight, but then I stopped. I just couldn't wrap my head around this lifestyle being healthy.
Then this year I've noticed that more and more programs such at Nutrisystem and other well know weight lost programs have revamped their programs to follow the Glycemic Index. Which is good carbs. vs. bad carbs.

Well that's what Atkins is all about too pretty much, not at the start obviously, but good and bad/burn and no burn.

    So here I am .

I must say though, I do enjoy going to the grocery store and cooking the food for myself...I'm making me a priority in my own life. It's such a high!
Following a program or even educating yourself about what you put in your face I think is key to success...not to mention this great website and all it's supporters. I wish all of you were my neighbours so we could have a few carb. and sugar free cocktail together.

Anywho, I am on day 3 and truckin' along .

Welcome Splendagrrl! Nice to have you join us. So glad you decided to make a return to the Atkins way of eating.
Don't worry about whether it's healthy... it is. If you think about it, once you hit OWL, you're simply removing refined flour, sugar and very processed foods from your diet and increasing veggies and other natural foods. Nothing very unhealthy in that... and this is underlined by the fact that most Atkineers blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar numbers improve dramatically after just a few weeks of eating this way.

Looking forward to reading of your successes!

Hi splendagrrl! Welcome to the board. Re-read the part in the book where it talks about how our cholesteral goes down while eating this way! It is healthy and if you follow the program eventually you'll be eating from every food group anyway, just healthy food instead of high carby foods!

Hi Splenda - (love your Canadian signal - are you Canadian ..I am ..)

After lurking on this site for a year - I'm happy to say that I started yesterday - I've tried every other diet on the planet with no results - even hired a personal trainer - but with frequent travelling - nothing happened either - well I am hoping that Atkins works for me ...

            Good luck
