  • Hi, I'm Jalen

Hello, I'm Jalen...New to this forum. I've been working at losing weight for years now but had a big AHA moment...and I'm finally on the right track.

I'm changing my life forever. And yes that is a bold statement, but I have been reading a lot lately on people who were successful at losing weight and keeping it off and it is all about totally becoming a new person. I have to change the way I think about a lot of stuff. I have to not be afraid to tell someone NO, I don't eat that.
Carbs are my evil downfall. I've known it a long time...but I haven't been ready or willing or both to totally get them out of my life forever. I haven't been willing to totally tear down the way I think about food and build a new structure. But, I am ready!!

From now on when it comes to bad carbs...I don't eat those. They are no longer part of my food vocabulary except to say no bread, potatoe, sugar, whatever. I'm done playing this game. I'm done trying to limit something that I have no control over!!

I've got the Atkins book, I'm rereading it. I'm not saying I'm doing "Atkins" exactly....but I'm doing a low carb plan. Most of my carbs will come from veggies only! I need to do this not only for my health but also for my daughter who is 16 and recently diagnosed with insulin resistance.

I'm going to make an appointment to get into my doctor and have some blood work done to check for all things evil...I'm going to measure myself, weigh myself and begin this transformation.

I'm going to be strong through the carb withdrawal phase. After all, I know it's coming so it won't be a suprise for me. I will just have to get through it!! And keep going!

Whew...this feels good. I finally understand "lifestyle change" is not just something you say, it's something you believe in, in your heart, and something you really live. You don't turn back to old ways...there are no old ways, because this is who you are NOW!!

Thank you Lord for pushing me here! I realize now that "I" alone do not have the strength to make a whole lifestyle change, but God does. And His strength will get me to my goal and maintain me always. Praise Jesus in all things!!

      Hi Jalen,

Welcome to ADBB and congrats on making such positive decisions to change your life

Would say, however, that the Atkins way really does work great and is healthy if you follow in by the book - so it is definately worth reading and considering to understand the science behind low carb.

      Best of luck
