  • I Promise...

i have been reading these forums for a few days and decided to join yesterday. me and my husband are going to try Low Carb. i am 47 - 5'7" - 260lbs (Perimenopausal) he is 45 - 5'6" - 190lbs (High Cholesterol). he is not really fat or anything, he just has a big belly. i bought my DANDR months ago and have been thinking and thinking and thinking about doing this, but im kinda scared too. just because i know that i am weak for sweets and bread. my husband LOVES sweets! any kind! getting older we both know that we HAVE TO GET IT TOGETHER! so i think im gonna try 1st and then im gonna slowly get him into it. he has seen me looking in here and i have shown him the before and after pictures and he like me was amazed! i truly dont know if i can do this, but im willing to give it a try. im not going to start right away because i need to clean out my kitchen and go shopping for Good Food, but I PROMISE, one day soon, i will begin! i hope i can come here for help when i need it. all of you seem so kind. i have been a so called Big Girl my whole entire life. i dont ever remember being under 200lbs so this is gonna be really new to me! but im gonna give it a try! I PROMISE!

    Re: I Promise...

Welcome Promise... to you and to your husband when you ease him into Atkins. You'll find there's plenty of inspiration and support to be had here at ADBB. We're all eager to help you keep your promise and to see you shed those extra lbs! You so can do it!

The most difficult are the first few days. Not long. Once you get past the cravings and induction flu (not everyone gets this though) you'll find that appetite suppression sets in and things get a lot easier. After that, the longer you stick to plan the simpler it gets, until you eat this way naturally and no longer miss those high carb foods.

    Happy losing!
    Before and after:

Hi Promise, I think your being smart. Its best to wait until you can really get a mind set. That way you don't just give it a try you just do it. See what can happen in 2 weeks of a solid induction. This is a GREAT place to get help when questions come up. Keep us posted on your and hubbys progress.

yes, i know i can do this! i just have to get into the correct mind set 1st. i dont want to start then stop then start again then stop again and so on... i have been on some type of diet forever it seems and i ALWAYS cheated, so this time i think i better be READY to start before i really get going. i like you SPEEDYTURTLE am also a SugarHolic and that is gonna be hard for me. but i think once i have my kitchen cleaned out and lots of good foods to eat, it will be much, much easier for me! i LOVE meat! so that will be easy, but im not too familiar with vegetables, so that will take some doing... and all the water....... I LOVE WATER! in fact water is about all i ever drink, but 120oz a day? i dont know if i will be able to keep up with that... about sweeteners??? i will not use ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS, even Splenda, so what do you think about STEVIA? im thinking about buying some today! even though it has 0 calories and 0 carbs i will still count it as 1, but how do you feel about Stevia? im feeling more Ready To Go each Day! so i know it wont be long!!!

Hi Promise! First, I think it's great for you to be eating this way with your husband. Secondly, Welcome!

Is your husband on a statin for the high cholesteral? You know, if you go to the Atkins in the News forum, you will see that for most people, eating this way actually lowers the cholesteral and raises the good cholesteral. Since he already has an issue with this, after 2 months or so he maybe should go get a cholesteral check, just to be sure.

Deciding to eat this way does take a while. It's completely different and has negative connotations. You can see I'm sure from what you've read around here that we're all alive and healthy!

Please come around the board often so we can see how you're doing. Theres lots of people on board who are always willing to lend a shoulder, or offer suggestions.

Welcome! Cruise around the boards, you'll find some recipe sections that can really help you figure out what to do with those veggies! Don't be afraid to try something new, I've been surprised to find out I have NEW favorite foods with this WOE (way of eating). Try getting into some kind of exercise, too, it really helps! If you haven't been active, just start with a walk around the block, you'll be amazed at how soon you can do more.

              Re: I Promise...

You and your hubby are just like I used to be.. LOVED SWEETS. But when I read DANDR I found out that there was something in my body that caused me to crave swets all the time... I would have given up regular food for bread pastas candy bars smoothies sodas cinnamon rolls and the like!! When I knew it wasn't my fault and that I needed to cure the condition (hyperinsulinism which is the previous phase to diabetes)... I STARTED ASAP and don't regret. Atkins controlled my insulin levels so from the 4th day and on there were NO MORE CRAVINGS. AND NO DIABETES IN MY FUTURE .. Welcome aboard!!!
