  • Hello Hello!

The boards here are great, so I decided to join. I did Atkins once before, and stayed on it for a year and a half. I had great success and lost 29lbs in about 6 months! I maintained for quite some time and thought I could eat pasta, pizza, fries, etc...As anyone would expect, I have gradually been putting the weight back on and it is time for me to get with it!

I started Atkins again this past Tuesday and am doing great. I even started running again this week and ran a full mile last night without stopping! (I only run a 15 minute mile, but I am still pretty happy I did it!)

The scale already says I am down 4 lbs, but I know I won't continue to lose at that rate. Even so, I am happy because when the scale goes down, it keeps me motivated.

I really hope I can stick with it and lose the weight! With all the wonderful success stories on this board I plan on staying motivated! I am truly impressed with how many of you are truly dedicated, and I am so grateful for your inspiration!

    Your new friend,

    Julie

                Re: Hello Hello!

Tomorrow starts week 2. I am pretty frustrated today because I got on the scale (eventhough I wasn't planning to again until tomorrow) and I somehow gained 1.5! I have been really good about watching my carbs. Yesterday I had eggs for brunch with salt and pepper. Then for dinner I had a small salad, fresh mozzarella and sliced tomatoes ( 3 slices) with balsamic vinegar and some olive oil. In addition, I had italian sausage. Last night I had a little light whipped cream for dessert (says less than 1 carb per serving). I walked yesterday morning for over a mile, and did sit-ups last night! I thought I was being really strict Well, I won't complain anymore about the scale until induction is at least over. I just ahd to get it out! Thanks for listening!

Hey Julie! First of all, I think you are not eating nearly enough food. You should never have under 1200 calories per day, and you can eat much more eating this way, usually 1800-2000 approximately depending on what you currently weigh. Your protein should be around 30% per day, the fat should be 60-65% per day and the rest from veggies. You should be having 2 cups of salad veggies AND one cup of regular veggie each and every day. If all you've been having is a small salad, that's not nearly enough. When you don't eat enough food, your body will hold to it's weight because it thinks you're starving it. You can eat, you should eat when hungry!

Secondly, the "lite" whipped cream you bought probably has sugar alcohols and sugar in it. You can't go by the label alone, read the ingredients. It's so easy to make your own whipped cream with heavy cream and splenda, that's a much better way to go! Hidden sugars trly sabotage all efforts!

This takes time to perfect, don't worry! Do you log your food intake anywhere? lots of us use www.fitday.com. it can help you with eating the right amounts of food.

Yes... food logging is a help. Silly's right... beware starvation mode. It's the fastest way to non losing (well, other than bingeing, that is!!! )

Thanks! I really didn't think I was in "starvation" mode! I feel like I am eating a lot. But I obviously have no problem with eating more! (that's how I got here to begin with...except that it was with too many carbs!)

                            Re: Hello Hello!

                            Well,

It is the end of my first two weeks on Atkins. I managed to get rid of that 1.5 lbs I gained...so I am back to down 4 lbs. I am a little frustrated that I did not lose a little more these past two weeks, but I am not planning on giving up any time soon.

On a positive note, I ran 1.25 miles last night and am thrilled. I decided to train for a 5k that is in October.

I have decided to stay in induction for another week (maybe even two). Pros and cons for this are welcome! Thanks for all of your wonderful advice!

Hey Julie. Extended induction is fine for a little while. You don't have all that much to lose and I would recommend you bump yourself to OWL sooner than 2 more weeks. You will probably find that when you do move up the rungs your weight loss will be kick started again. The point isn't fast loss so much as it is retraining you eating habits! That's what OWl will do for you. Keep us posted!
