  • Support mom!!

Hello everyone, Finally figured out how to get on here...........I need help to keep my daughter "going" on Atkins. I've been on it and KNOW it works. Our problem..............My daughter has to lose 20lbs before going to boot camp. She's been doing everything right, but has only lost 6lbs in two weeks (Induction). She's lost inches, but that's not what she has to lose.
A very picky eater, so that's why I've been doing the meal planning. I showed her the "Fat Fast", but there's nothing there she'd eat. I want her to do this diet properly and stay healthy. She's been doing great........drinking plenty of water and exercising and excited about the inches lost, but starting to panic over the lbs....................any help or suggestions????

    Thanks,
    PJ

    Re: Support mom!!

Hello and welcome PJHB... to you and your daughter!

Sounds like she's doing very well indeed. The average loss for the two weeks of induction is 5% - 10% of the total weight one needs to lose, so by that yardstick she's doing fantastically. Losing inches is also a far truer guage of weight loss than is the scales.
Does your daughter have to be a in a particular weight range to be admitted to boot camp? How long does she have to attain her goal?

As with any diet, Atkins isn't something you can rush... the weight will come off in its own sweet time (which of course is always slower than we'd like!! ).
I'd strongly advise against the fat fast which is not safe for any but the very metabolically resistant to weight loss.

Keep us posted on how she's getting along!

Hi pjhb, what a good mom you are! Everyone's weight loss is different, there is no quick fix! She's trying and I think 6 pounds is great!

PJ.. Can I hire you to make my life easier?? Just kidding LOL.. of course she's doing great!!! Just keep in her mind that this is not to be taken as a diet (as the traditional diet concept).. but a lifestyle.. I yo-yo dieted since I was in 6th grade!! I took my first diet pills at 12. My mom always supported me: prepared my meals, encouraged me and everything, but I was a carb addict.. so, now, I'm a grown up and realized that I needed a change, a permanent change for permanent results.

6 lbs so far sounds great for her goal, and the fat fast wouldn't be the way to go according to Dr Atkins. Remember this is not another fad diet. It is a lifestyle, and I hope I would have known about it when I was your daughter's age... Way to go !!!

Thanks everybody....................my daughter is commited to making her goal to go into the Coast Guard. She has ALWAYS wanted to go into law enforcement and going into the service will get her to her love and goal. Knowing that Atkins works, when done right, I am helping her getting to her goal. Yeah, I'll cook...........I've been there and done that. I can come up with some wonderful dinners. Funny, though, my youngest daughter and I have lost four pounds each, just trying to be supportive...........I told my daughter about this site and she felt better..............

Again, thanks everyone............................PJ Yeah, I'll come cook for ya!!!!!

Yes, bump up to the next food rung, it's +5 gm carbs in the form of veggies. Additionally, make sure she's having enough calories each day. If she's eating too little, she will not lose weight as her body will go into starvation mode.

                      Re: Support mom!!

Thanks again........after talking to her, the main problem is, unfortunately she's a very picky eater. Mostly chicken and as hard as I try to make it appealing, she's tired of it. She is your basic.....chicken, potato, bread person since she was little. Doesn't like meat, just WHITE........Even though I had a field day on the Atkins with so much to eat, the list is slim to nothing for her. I'm frustrated and she's in tears. She's hungry......bottom line, and tired of the chicken and cheese she used to love. We'll get through this because she's **** bent on her dreams. I do appreciate all YOUR support for the supporter.......hahahahahahaha I will try adding some carbs though.
One main problem is her recruiter told her to eat tuna and run.........I'd like to shoot the guy. OKAY.......I'm off to start anew plan.

Also, is there any directions on how to surf this board??? I'd love to ask questions and reply to some folks, but am computer illiterate.......hahahahaha PJ

                        Re: Support mom!!

Is there any chance that you could get your daughter to join this board? It seems like she is miserable and under a tremendous amount of pressure. Maybe if she poked around in here a little she would get some inspiration and learn how to tailor her plan to fit her tastes too. If she starts taking control of the plan rather than relying on you it could boost her confidence (and maybe reduce your stress level too!).

Navigating: There are some great threads in the "Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's" Forum which is located in the "Atkins Phases" group of forums on the main page. In particular "Technical Tips for Using this Board" dated August 30, 2006 by jimmie48.

Good luck to you - you sound like a wonderful mom!
