  • Second Day!

    Trying to fight off my urges! I'm doing well food wise and hoping I don't get discouraged in a few days! Anyway, I'm 5'2" 120 lbs- I've gained atleast 13 lbs in the past year and 1/2. That may not sound too bad, but I'm only 23, not in my 40's. Question about the drinking though, I know we aren't supposed to drink any alcohol, absolutly no wine , I'll normally drink about 3 glasses a night- excluding nights out, or drinking nights, but vodka has 0 carbs. Can I mix drinks of vodka and diet coke????? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Sarahde! Welcome to the board! Coming here to fight off those urges is a great thing to do! After a week or so, the cravings will go away. Keep in mind that alcohol can stall your loss, diet coke and such can lead you to stall as well. However, you are right that Vodka has no carbs.

      I am 40something and if I was 20something I would be the same amount overweight. In fact I was, LOL. At either age it would not be best for me. Like you I am here to feel better and get healthier.
      I believe your weight loss will stop until all the sugar alcohol is out of your system. Might take a couple of days to get back to ketosis. Alcohol is not on induction, but hang tite its on one of the higher rungs.

        Thanks girls! I'm feeling good right now and am sipping on some water with apple cider vinegar, ha. My other responses told me I shouldn't have any vodka . As bad as that makes me look, ha, sometimes it's nice to have a drink after work. I have gone without for wine in 2 days and I suppose that's a good thing! I feel a little dumb being on her when I see some people in the 200lb range, but for me, since I'm so short, 5'2" my 120 looks like more on me, so I'm here to drop only about 8-10 and jump start a healthier weight to maintain.....until kids, ha. My mom weighed less then me after 2 kids and packed on after 4 kids. We are the same height and she was up to 140. I don't want to get to that, it's not healthy for the height. I'd be more than her and don't want that. She's lost on weight watchers, now down to 130's, which is fine for 54 years, but not me. I'm too into cheese and chips (which is the hardest, along with the wine), ha, so weight watchers wouldn't work for me. Thanks again, and I'm going to try to log onto this site for support, thanks!

          Hi sarahde and welcome.
          I know it's hard to forego the wine and other alcohol at first, but if you grit your teeth and get through the first few days, it gets easier. Everything gets easier... and the Atkins appetite suppression kicks in too.
          It's important to do as clean an induction as possible, both to reduce the cravings by eliminating sugars and to get an idea (from your induction losses) of your metabolic resistence to weight loss... also very important is that you'll be able to estimate your CCLL (critical carb level for losing) from your induction losses. This will be very helpful in the second phase of Atkins, when you begin to re-introduce different food groups regularly.

          I suggest that you get hold of the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - 2002 edition) if you haven't already done so. Understanding exactly how this way of eating works is important to success.
