  • Induction and TOM! HELP!

Hi! I am on my 4th day of induction and it is TOM. I used a stick today (ketostick) and it was only in the soft pink. I have been right at 18-20 carbs a day. Is this due to TOM that I am not in the moderate to high zone of Ketosis? It is aggrevating. I don't want to weigh in til next Tuesday. I still don't feel like I am losing? Any advice?

    Re: Induction and TOM! HELP!

Hello there Erin and welcome! Glad you're with us!

Don't stress about the stix... they're only a guide and mean little. Many of us never get a reading with them, yet get to goal just fine. Also there are so many things that affect the reading: alcohol, how much water you drink (makes the reading lighter), time of day etc...

If you eat correctly, exercise and drink plenty of water... you'll be fine!

    Happy Atkineering!

        Re: Induction and TOM! HELP!

        Hi Erin & Welcome!

When I started induction I didn't get any readings on my Ketosticks until the 3rd day, and they were pale. But by lunch they were dark. Next morning pale again. It fluctuates all of the time, and that is normal. As long as you are sticking to your eating, drinking and exercise plan trust that the pounds and inches are coming off.

As far as feeling like you aren't losing anything, it may be that you don't feel any smaller yet because it's your TOM. I've read on this site several times that temporary gains of 4 or 5 pounds at that time are normal, and they drop off after your TOM is over.

You are doing great, so hang in there!

          Re: Induction and TOM! HELP!

Hi Erin! Welcome to ADBB! Of course TOM comes during induction. That pretty much goes without saying! Sally's right, don't stress over the ketosticks. With them, any color other than beige means you are in ketosis. A darker color isn't necessarily a good thing as it tends to mean you're dehydrated! Just keep plugging away as you are and soon you will see results!

                Re: Induction and TOM! HELP!

I agree about the ketostix. I love using them as a guide, but that is all. Any color, light or dark is a great thing. Also, I used to notice a difference from morning to afternoon. By afternoon, it was darker. I guess I drank more water in the a.m. or during the night, eh?

                  Re: Induction and TOM! HELP!

Thanks so much! I have not weighed myself because I usually lose slowly. I don't want to get discouraged. I have remained in Ketosis according to the sticks since day 3. We shall see what that means come next week Tuesday. Today starts week two. Thanks for the encouragement!
