  • Saying Hello....

Hi everyine, my name is Julie and I've been on Atkins for 18 days today. I've gone down two sizes(I don't weight myself because of an eating disorder I had years ago) and I can honestly say that I've never felt more energy in a very long time. I exercise everyday(cardio and weights) and I love how I just seem to be "melting". My only problem is that I have absolutely no appetite and I find that I'm struggling to get to even 1000 calories a day. I know I need to eat more but it's really hard. Does anyone have any ideas for adding calories when it seems like you just can't get anymore in?

BTW, I admit it, I never gave up coffee. I have one large mug every morning but drink water the rest of the day......

    Re: Saying Hello....

Hi Julie. Welcome to the board. It is so great that you are not weighing and going by clothing size. Sounds like you're doing really well! You have no appetite because this is working for you, and you're in ketosis. However, 1,000 calories a day is too little. Do you like avocado's? They're a great calorie/fat bumper upper. Or a few slices of bacon? A good, high fat salad dressing? Butter on everything? You don't have to necessarily eat more food, just higher calorie foods.

    Come around the board often!

Hello and welcome aboard! Terrific to hear you're doing so well!
Silly is right though you need to up your calories some. This is easily done by adding fatty foods if you're not hungry for more bulky foods. It's the Atkins appetite suppression that you're experiencing, because of ketosis. Just avoid going into starvation mode (where you will stop losing), and you'll be fine.

        Happy Atkineering!

          Hi Size44Me!

Welcome! It's a real pleasure to read posts from people who are already feeling the changes and energy associated with this WOE. It's definitely something that is MUCH better experienced than described.

It does not mention in your post how much you have committed to losing. I'm curious. Also, we started our individual journeys at the same time, or thereabouts. It's always nice to be in the same timeline as someone else. You have come such a long way - those 18 days fly by, but by the time you look around and find yourself here, it feels like you've been eating this way your whole life.

And what a great place to come and share your experiences!!! Please keep us posted. I will follow your progress closely (if you don't mind). Although I don't post much myself, I'm an avid visitor and am always around to offer encouragement and support when needed. Take care and keep it up!!!

Julie welcome aboard. I'm with you once my body hit ketosis my appetite was all but gone. I struggle myself to eat a decent amount of calories I get over 1000 bearely but when I add 60 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training I seem to blow right by those calories. I found that eatting avocados and 3 pieces of turkey bacon seem to do the trick for me. In the morning I changes to eatting eggs and Chorizo (mexican sausage) It quite the treat and has plenty of fat and calories to give you the extra boost. You're doing well and stay focused!

Hi Julie! Congratulations on your 2 sizes down--that's super!

Isn't the no-hunger thing great? I've noticed that I hit a stall when I don't eat enough each day, so I've started experimenting with different cheeses. I keeps me from getting burnt out on the same old snacks, and I get to look forward to trying different flavors--which really helps when I'm not hungry but still need to eat. More of a food adventure rather than than "I have to eat something".

                    Re: Saying Hello....

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the greetings and the wonderful advice! I went out and bought avacados and mayo and a few other high fat foods that I've been adding into my meals and so far so good. I didn't think it was possible, but I feel even better than I did before, LOL.

NoThanksI'mSweetEnough: I don't have a weight goal because I don't weight myself, but my size goal is a 4-which was what I was just a year ago. I started at a very snug size 14 and now my 10's are fittiing nice. I hope the rest of the weight comes off as fast.

                    -Julie

Ah, a believer now! I'm really, really glad to hear that you feel better and are eating higher fat foods! I know, it's really hard to wrap your head around that, but it does work!

Slow and steady to size 4's!
