  • First Day and need help

I started Induction today for the first time ever. I already feel icky. Does anyone have some recipes for induction that might "seem" sweet? Any recipes would be appreciated actually cause I am a finicky eater... do not eat red meat, fish (except shrimp). I feel like I am alone in this but really really want to get through this and stick with it.

    Thank you

    Hello

I don't quite know what you mean by things that "seem" sweet...you can definatly eat sweets on Atkins that are low carb and yummy. I eat dessert twice a day and am still losing quite nicely .

Here's a link to a really good cheesecake from Linda's lowcarb recipes. http://genaw.com/lowcarb/no-bake_cheesecake.html

And here's my favorite: Pumpkin Custard.

Anything I've tried on Linda's site has been really good, so look around something will definatly appeal to you.

When I have a sweet craving I'll have no carb jello with whipped cream and splenda or make my own cocco and top with whipped cream. Here's a link to a yummy cocco recipe: http://www.camacdonald.com/lc/Cookbook/1007.html. Check out the Almond Italian cream recipe from the Atkins book as well, it's very good.

    Good luck

Hiya Hope&Pray. Welcome aboard! Glad you decided to join us here at ADBB.

CareyAnne has given you an awesome link to Linda's site. Her recipes are wonderful. The induction friendly ones are marked with an asterisk.
Yes... you can have desserts on Atkins, although it's advisable during induction to do as much as you can to kill the sugar addiction by starving it. It doesn't take long before that gets dealt a huge blow, by abstention.. and that's hardest only for the first few days. Remember too that the sweetner allowance for induction is three servings per day (a serving being like a sugar sachet for coffee).

Keep us posted on how you're getting along. We're with ya!

        Hi Hope&Pray,

        Welcome to ADBB

It is nice to have desserts every now and then btu I think Sally's right about doing what you can to kill the cravings as early as possible and stp bad habits in their tracks. Though induction is tough, the cleaner you do it (i.e. the less sweetner) the easier it will be afterwards - at least, that's what I think

        Best of luck with it

Thanks for the recipes, I really need a place to get some. I am only doing the accepted foods during induction but just wanted to see what I could have during this time.. Thanks again, it is the start of day 2 and I am more hopeful this AM than I was last night.

Hi Hope&Pray! Welcome to the board. I agree with Sally, try to eliminate the sweet things for a little while. You will see that as you begin to get into ketosis, sweet things won't seem so important anymore. Of course, a sweet is nice on occasion, but truly, eating this way you will quickly lose your cravings for them.

              Hi Hope&Pray, and welcome!

Trust me, the first two or three days of induction are the worst. Your body is missing the stuff it's used to getting, and when you don't give in to those cravings, it kinda throws a temper tantrum. I know I was in *foul* mood the first three days. Once you get through the first few days, it will get a *lot* easier!

Definitely look for and try tons of new recipes! It will break the hum-drum of eating the same things during induction and chances are you'll find a dish you really, really love.

Welcome Hope&Pray. You don't have to feel alone anymore as you have found the best place to receive encouragement and support. I agree with the advice you've already been given. Make a plan to succeed by arranging your exercise, water intake and find recipes that will make your new WOE (way of eating) enjoyable and satisfying to you.

Make friends and get comfortable with the changes you are making. It gets easier. Take your measurements so you'll see the inches fall off as well as the weight. We're all here for you. Welcome to the family!

                  Hi Hope & Pray,

I hope day three is going a little easier for you!

My first 2-3 days were the worst. But the sweet cravings really do magically disappear! I had to remind myself of that a few weeks ago when I gave up my coffee and iced tea - it was awful for a few days, but then it really did go away - just like the cravings for sweets did.
