  • Hello

I've been lurking for about a week and wanted to say hi and thanks for all the ideas and help I've found here.

This is my first time on Atkins, day 20.

Anyone know anything about calories for Atkins? I know we don't have to count, but I kind of want too. I remember reading about fat fast, 1000 and then 1250.

The reason I ask is I have 70 to lose and lost only 5 these past three weeks, walking on the treadmill 5 days a week, weight train 3 days a week no cheating. I know that because I lost anything I shouldn't do fat fast...but this weekend I started a nicer version of it, up the fat, down the calories (80% fat, 20% protein, 1400 calories) I'm going to see if that helps.

In any case, this is the only thing I've tried that achieved anything, so I'm hopeful.

Need to go get some more water now lol

    Re: Hello

Welcome! You can check out this site: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

you have to read around some but will give you a good lidea of exactly how many calories your body needs to lose weight.

Calories don't matter so much eating this way, because without the carbs you are able to eat a bit more. However, it still stands to reason that if you consume too many calories than your body is expending, you still will gain weight!

You shouldn't do the fat fast unless you have been at complete standstill for over 30 days!

Also, if you really want to log all of your intake use www.fitday.com! It's a great site!
You look pretty much on track to me!

Welcome Bivium! Glad you decided to join our Atkins family. It's great that you found ideas and help here at ADBB. Support and inspiration is something you can really count on here.

      Ditto what Silly said.
I'd also recommend you avoid the fat fast like the plague. It isn't safe for any but those severely metabolically resistent to weight loss, and those people who don't fit into that category and who try it, end up re-gaining more than they lost at the speed of light, after they stop.

Keep posting and let us know how you get along. Happy losing!

        Hey Bivium6, welcome!

I know you're frustrated with slow loss, but it will be worth it. Slow and steady means a better chance of the weight being gone for good. Plus, you seem to be working out like mad, so it might be that you're putting on lean muscle, which *does* way more than fat. Have you tried measuring yourself? Do your clothes fit looser than a 5 lb loss would normally allow? Sometimes that's a better gauge than the scale.

        Good luck!

Thanks for the link to the BMR calculator, I haven't been eating enough. I think I'm use to being hungry and don't know the difference anymore

Anyway, bi-weekly weigh in this morning and I was very surprised to see I went down maybe 2 pounds. Onward and downward.

That's why I sent you the link! It's a frequent occurance around here (I'm guilty of it myself) to not actually be eating enough! Go figure, huh? The thing is that with this WOE we are not hungry much of the time. Still, it's important to have enough nurients. Just use that as a guide, bump up your intake and watch the weight go bye bye!
