  • My atkins...

Hi everyone, I have been lurking around for a while and have learned alot from everyone .You guys have been an inspiration for me, I lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks but doing it a different way,Truthfully, I admire those of you who have the will power to stick to it more than 2 months or even as a way of life, I can't.

I do Atkins Sun thru thur and rest fri and sat and have lost >>>>>>>>30 pounds

I know it may contradict the whole idea of the diet but it works for me and it keeps me motivated because i know when the weekend comes around I will enjoy my favorite foods. When or if I get used to it than I'll do it longer...

    Re: My atkins...

And you come to an Atkins board that advocates Atkins to the letter to tell us this for what reason exactly?

I dont think you are going to make many friends around here with that sort of attitude I'm afraid.

Their is no particular reason why I wrote what I wrote, I don't mean to disrespect anyone's way of eating, I actually admire those who can stick to it completely, I just do it my way and it works for me.So, if people want to not "be my friend" than that's fine...I am a fond believer that the Atkins diet works, to me the best one but I seem to do better with that motivation. But thank you anyways for your rude comment.

        Hi Cyndi,

Welcome to ADBB Whatever you're approach it is always good to meet someone new and big congrats on having lost weight

I'm sorry to be predictable but I think it is worth saying that it can be unhealthy to be switching in and out of ketosis - or so I have heard. I'm afraid I don't know the specifics of this - maybe someone else will shed some light on it. I think it may become less effective over time and could lead to long term re-gaining because you never know that you will always be able to get back on the wagon, sort of thing.

I know it is hard to think about living without some foods - we've all felt that dread of no chocolate, or bread or whatever it is, but seriously once you have a clean induction and stick to it for a couple of weeks it is amazing what you do not miss; whereas when you cheat and then re-induct all the time there are sometimes headaches and bloating (I used to cheat a lot, so I've had this). Seriously - give it a try - I bet you'd be amazed

              Hey Jane,

I started off at 236lbs and am now 205lbs, I started at the beginning of July.I just recently had twins, in January, so I just jog with them in the stroller.Thant's about it.I know it sounds odd but I would lose 6 or 7 pounds, rest friday and saturday, gain 1/2 pound and start back on Sunday, it works for me and keeps me commited.LIFE is precious and one of the best things in it is eating , shoot, I can't cut off cheesecake all together, like my mother tells me"girl, it's incredible you eat like a pig on weekends and still manage to have dropped so much".It works for me.And thanks for the post.

You look great by the way, keep it up,

              Cynthia

Hi Cyndi, welcome to the board. Congratulations on your two new little ones!

While it appears you have had successful weight loss doing "your own atkins" the majority of the people on this board follow the DANDR book according to the rules.

                Continued success to you!

                  Re: My atkins...

Hiya Cyndi and welcome! Congrats on your 30 lbs shed so far. That's really cool!

We're very happy to have you here with us, but of course we're gonna try to convince you to try following Atkins to the letter. It really works fantastically well and in time it gets easier and easier to eat this way permanently. I never believed it would be so easy when I started, but it has become so... and I live in one of the most difficult countries there is for low carbing!

You've done so very well so far that it would be a pity to jeopardize it all now. The problem with yo-yoing is that in the long run it could very well interfere with your metabolism and make it really hard for you to lose weight.

Do keep us posted on your progress and on what you decide. Happy losing!

Cyndi, congratulations on the 30 pounds - that's better than most people do on any diet! As has already been said, some people here may give you some flack about not being totally on Atkins, but you know you better than any of us. And in the end that is what matters. Hopefully, as time goes on you will come to realize that you feel healthier and more energetic during the week while on Atkins than on the weekends when you're off the wagon, but that is something you have to decide. But I hope I speak for everyone here that we will be here to help in any way we can.

                        Re: My atkins...

Cyndi...I vary breakfasts... sometimes good ol egg and bacon... or mock danish... other times oats (like raw oats with chopped apple/peach and chopped nuts, with "milk" I make from watered cream). Other times, leftover meats.

Lunch is usually a big salad along with something like Breasaola (cured beef) arugula (rocket) and parmesan shards.... or perhaps prosciutto e melone... or cold roast chicken; or tuna and beans. I like flax crackers with cheese too. Sometimes a slice of whole grain bread instead.

Dinner is mainly my "cooked" meal: all sorts of meat, fish, fowl. Stir frys, curry, "in umido" meat, ribs... with cooked veg often tossed in olive oil, chili and garlic. Occasionally a small piece of a potato.
Sometimes I have shiritaki noodles or maybe once a month Dreamfields pasta (waited til maintenance for this).
Two or three times a week I'll have dessert: s/f jelly and cream; fruit and cream; greek yogurt with chopped nuts; almond flour cake...

Usually have a glass of red wine in the evenings too.
