  • Glenda's Journey Back!

My name is Glenda & I've found my way back to the WOL that I know works for me. I've recently gotten myself out of a 2 year funk/depression. I had previously lost 30# on Atkins & never felt so good in my life. I gave up in 2005 due to life changes. My son moved to TX in late Feb. My 1st DGD was born there in April. My daughter moved to NYC in April. I loved not having kids at home but why did they have to move so far away??? July my employers/dear friends decided to close their OB/GYN practice & move to HA. Office closed in Sept. I then went to bed & stayed there for awhile. I just didn't handle all of these changes in a healthy way. Got out of bed & got dressed only when absolutely necessary.

I'm not quite sure what changed my attitude in July but I sure am glad it happened. I gave my notice at the Pediatricians office that I worked. I didn't really like this job & the place was just so dysfunctional. I was fortunate to get a job back in the OR at my local hospital. I had worked there for 5 yrs before going to work in the OB/GYN office. I love my job in the OR!!!

I knew that my weight had gone up. You would think that when I was having to go buy bigger underwear that I would have figured it out!!! I didn't realize how much until I got on a scale at my MIL. What was I thinking????? During my vacation I went to a quilt show in Hershey, PA & met some on-line quilting buddies. Of course a picture was taken & posted. When I saw that picture I think the fog left my head & reality *itch slapped me right in the face. I started toying with the idea of Atkins again. The kicker was when I got on the airplane to go to TX for the rest of my vacation. You guessed it...the seatbelt almost didn't fit me. I was NOT going to ask for the seatbelt extension. So I sucked it in & clicked that belt together. I was not a happy camper & it took everything in me not to burst into tears.

I got home from vacation on August 3rd. Found my Atkins book, made my grocery list & decided on a start date. Began on Monday 8/06. Today is day 6!! I feel good despite the slight headache. I lucky enough to have a very supportive & non judgemental(very thin) husband. We live in a great location for walking. Through my work I was able to get a membership to the local college Shape program. We can use the swimming pool & the weight room which is currently being built. The college is literally my next door neighbor!!!

Thanks for listening!! I'm very grateful for this board as it is so full of information, support & inspiration!!

    Re: Glenda's Journey Back!

Thanks Glenda for posting your tale... and welcome to ADBB. You'll get plenty of support and inspiration here.

Isn't is horrid when we get a wake up call from a photo? Or... even worse, a video (as happened to me)!
Anyway... you're back on the path to better health and a trim figure. Don't worry about the headache. Just a touch of induction flu, which is your body weaning itself away from high carbs. Grit your teeth and bear it and it'll soon be gone... you'll be feeling terrific in a short time.
    Congrats on your exercise plans!

Can't wait to see your posting about your successes.

            HI...

Don't you just love the thin as a twig husbands? My sweet man is very thin too. His only weight issue had been how to keep weight on. He got sick before we met and lost about 25 pounds... He looked like walking death. It took him two years to put the weight back on. TWO YEARS for 20 pounds.. Heck I could do that in a few weeks with very little effort...

It's strange he naturally eats Atkins style. He's never had a weight problem and when I explained what I was doing and why he was surprised... He said.. "But that's how I was raised.. it's essentially a Danish diet".. He was born and raised in Denmark and says this is how his entire family has always eaten..

Anyhow, congratulations on having the guts to come back, I'm pretty new here too and started into induction at about the same time you did... So it will be nice to have someone to pal around with...

                Re: Glenda's Journey Back!

                Gee.. Thanks...

We had a great time.. The cabin in the background is our home. We walked up into the woods and had the wedding under a huge oak tree. Then we walked back down and toasted our guests, excused ourselves and went into the kitchen to put the finishing touches onto our meal... You see, we cooked for our own wedding!
