  • Hello all

I have been checking in on this board for quite some time. I havent formally introduced myself yet. I probably wouldnt have anytime soon either, but im having a problem and needed some support. First things first, my name is Sarah. I am married to a military man and have a one yr old daughter. That in itself is where my weight came from. Food became my only friend when i put the ring on my finger and moved to the west coast (i'm originally from Michigan) BIG CHANGE. So as it would come about from my husband working all the time and then getting deployed i put on 40 pounds in a yr. Then after he returned from iraq the first time i got pregnant. So you can add an additional 37 lbs to that. Well, on a good note i lost most of the baby weight BUT still have 45 to lose. So my problem now..this is long sorry. I officially started last Monday. I had a fire under my butt that i hadnt felt in a long time, but fell off the wagon on Thursday and for some reason can't get myself back on the path! I guess i really shouldnt say "for some reason" because here lately i have been REALLY stressed. I just really could use some words of encouragement right now. I have been looking at everyones stories and i feel like i could be one of you, but im stuck right now. Congrats to everyone that has lost and is losing. Hope to meet a buddy on here that can help me out through this journey.

    Re: Hello all

    Hi Sarah,

I have been on the look out for you since you told me you were a military wife. Welcome to the board! I can relate to using food as a crutch when your husband is away. I am in my second week of induction so I too am just getting my feet wet in this way of life.

There is only one way to start a journey and that is to take the first step. If you take that step, the people here will support you any way they can. I look forward to hearing about your weight loss journey.

Hey Fat2Phat! I so TOTALLY understand where you're coming from. I did the military wife thing...put on about 45 pounds...I was really young back then, like 18, but I took it off by exercising like a maniac and eating sushi 6 times a week! LOL ! Let's just say the metabolism is not what it used to be and I've found that Atkins is the best way to go if you want to lose without starving yourself. Post often...you'll see...you are gonna become addicted to this...in a good way...and everyone is here to help...we've all "been there, done that" and we are still in the battle! See you around the boards!

        Re: Hello all

Hello and welcome Fat2Phat! Glad you joined us here at ADBB. Lots of support and inspiration to be had here.

Once you get through the first few days, it gets easier and easier, I promise. You need to get into ketosis and you'll find that then a degree of appetite suppression will kick in. In a short while cravings will diminish and you'll find you have loads of energy!

Hang in there... it's soooo worth it!

          Re: Hello all

Hi Sarah, Sally is right you just have to stick with this for several days in a row and then it settles in. You won't be hungry, and if you are, just have a legal treat (cheese, meat etc). Eating the fat will help with any cravings you may have.

The other thing that's great for not cheating, is to come to the board very, very often. Many friendly people will help you through it!

            Re: Hello all

Welcome to the fold. I found that even though the physical cravings stopped I still had some behavioral habits that made me want to eat. I had to change my routine before I could break free from the desire to eat the comfort foods. If I find myself in a situation where my old habit was to down some ice cream or other comfort food, I stop what I am doing and do something else. I run an errand or go to the laundry room and fold a load of laundry (there is always laundry!). Once I changed what I was doing I lost the craving to cheat. Anyway, it was just what helped me through the first couple of weeks. I wish you great success.

              Re: Hello all

Thank you for all the responses. I found my place . I started back up today and feel like this time is IT. I am a little bummed at the thought that if I wouldve stuck to it when I started last Monday i would be on day 9 at this point. So im trying to put it behind me and pick up where i left off. Pre-marriage body here i come!

Hi Sarah, glad you decided to start posting! I totally know where you're coming from. In the last few months I tried to get back on track at least half a dozen times and couldn't make it past the first few days. For some reason I just stopped worrying about the 2 weeks I needed to get through Induction and started to worry about each day alone. All I had to do was make it through that day. Now it's been 20 days and those first few just seem like a dream now.

I did have a slip in there when I took my daughter to a concert, but I just picked myself up and carried on the next day like nothing was any different. All I had to do was get through that day. I'd like to spend the rest of my days like this, just one day at a time. It's so much easier for me.

Good luck, and see you around the board!
