  • Starting out Atkins in South Korea...could be the only one?

So i decided whilst being here in South Korea that it was time to get back on track wth my weight after letting it slip up a bit more. In the past i've had great success on a simple low calorie tonnes of excercise style diet. A friend of mine from back home had recommended atkins a while ago and now im in a country where meat is majorly popular.

There are restaurants here which serve you plates of fresh meats and you barbeque them at your table not to mention meat in the supermarket is all at least half the price id pay in england. Just £2 for 5 chicken breasts.....woooo beats £6 at Sainsburys any day.

Small problem for me is that all food labels are in Korean (Hangul symbols) and i can't tell whats what, does anyone have any idea how on earth im going to get around this? At the moment i am just relying on what i know is ok for induction but im wondering what happens when i move onwards?

The most i weighed was around 190 and i got that down to 158 lbs not so long ago but as i said i let it slip and i was so darn close too.

I weigh 174lbs now and am 5'10'', im still working out at the gym 4 to 5 times a week so i'm hopefull. Does anyone know roughly what is a good amount to lose during induction for someone like me? So i know if im doing it right. Can't get the ketone strips ive seen people write about out here as far as i know...

Hi! Welcome to the board. That's great to hear about having a lot of protein available. I don't have any suggestions to help find out about the symbols other than trying to find a book or website that might give you nutrition information about the foods there. US has a more stricter nutrition lable law than most countries, I think. If you're eating veggies and the meat around you, I think you'll be safe for sticking to the Induction list. There's websites out there that give nutritional value on veggies as well as websites, such as fitday.com, that help with keeping track of carb intake. I hope that helps you some. Best wishes!

Hi Me! Welcome to the board. Hmmm, I imaging it would be tough to be in another Country, with another language! Meat is good, just be sure the sauces don't have sugar in them. The Korean BBQ meats I can buy in the States all have sugar in them. Do you have a Korean to English dictionary? Good luck to ya!

It's all realtive and how we feel about our own bodies. More than the weight loss it's the healthful lifestyle of eating.

Welcome Me4ls! Good to have you aboard.

Don't worry... you can easily do without the ketostix... they don't mean much really and can cause more grief than they're worth. Plenty of people reach goal without ever having had the stix turn colour even. Just follow the plan as prescribed and you'll do fine.

As for how much weight you'll lose... it's hard to say. We're all so very different and weight loss is affected by so many variables: age, gender, exercise, metabolism.... In induction we typically lose between 5%-10% of the total amount of weight we need to lose.

Looking forward to following your success!
