  • Hi everyone

My name is Aya and I live in Massachusetts (any others around?)

I've only been in the US for a year and a bit and so am a bit slow ito what's happening. For example, had my first canned chicken the other day (bought a yucky brand though). And just discovered Eggbeaters.

Anyway, I'm 32 and have lost about 4lbs so far on Atkins in 4 weeks (I know, slow) and I've read all the books etc. I want to lose 10 more lbs. I think because I don't have that much to lose I'm struggling to be as strict as I should be. Does anyone else have the after-dinner go-crazy thing where you want to eat yummy treats even though you mustn't?

Also, I find that reading through all the awesome looking low-carb recipes makes me so hungry! Makes me want to bake and cook everyday....kind of defeating the object. Food Network is also a channel I can't allow myself to watch because I just want to eat after watching it!

Anyway, enough blabbing. Just wanted to say hi, and looking forward to chatting to you guys. And to reaching my goal!

    Aya

    Re: Hi everyone

    Hey there Aya! Welcome!
Don't worry about what you think is a slow loss. Fact is, you don't have much to lose, so it will be slower going. That's just an unpalatable truth. A typical induction loss is 5%-10% of the total amount you have to lose, so I think you're doing fine.

Roam around the board some and see all that's going on. There are plenty of cool and motivating things to get involved in: journals, challenges, recipes, chit chat...

Post lots and keep us up to date as to your progress. We're rooting for ya!
    Before and after:

Hi Aya. Welcome. Any loss is great loss and really, the slower the better. Are you moving yourself up the food ladder appropriately? Sometimes we get stuck in induction, but with only pounds to lose you should be eating more along the lines of pre maintenance. I was just wondering!

Do you know of all the low carb recipe sites out there? There's a ton. There's no reason not to read recipes and cook your little heart out. You can have amazingly rich and yummy foods eating this way.

Here's Linda's site. Many of us use it frequently!

          Re: Hi everyone

Hi , thanks for all your messages! I was just browsing Linda's site right now as I'm the throes of that post-dinner what-can-I-eat-now rut that I have everyday I feel like all the fun is over now
Sillygirl, you're spot-on; I'm juggling between induction and OWL because I feel bad for having not been strict enough on induction.
And, I know this sounds pathetic, but I struggle to count my carbs properly and often round off. I know I should keep a note or use Fitday but feel like I shouldn't spend so much time thinking about food. I really need to focus!
Thanks guys, for all you support!

            Re: Hi everyone

No, thinking about food is almost a must because A) it's yummy and B) this way of eating involves planning! Fitday is a great tool, use it.

You should at least be on rung 1. Maybe strict induction for a day or two, then rung 1. Do that a few days and then bump up again etc. until you get to a point where you stop losing so much. Just go slowly!

You can always have a couple of Tblsp. of cream cheese with Splenda and some extract if you need it. That's legal and sweet!

              Re: Hi everyone

Hi. Welcome to the board. Everyone is unique in the way they lose. We all have different amounts to lose and different speeds at which we lose it. Make plans to fit into your life-style, exercise, foods, what motivates you, connect with friends here that have the same interests and join some challenges. Its easier to stay focused if you are enjoying the journey. Best wishes and keep us posted. We care and want to see you succeed.
