  • Hello! New to the boards

I'm Shannon from Missouri and I started Induction on Monday.

1st day I craved sugar horribly bad.

2nd day I also craved sugar horribly bad, and I ate a TON of food. According to fitday, I consumed 21 carbs (but had 3601 calories-YIKES!). I felt hungry, but I think I really just wanted some sugar, so I compensated by eating more. Last night I almost felt sick (from all of the fat?). Also had a headache much of the afternoon.

3rd day, today, I feel less inclined to eat sweets, but have been somewhat light-headed since I woke up this morning.

I bought a scale yesterday afternoon. I weighed 198 at 6 pm. Today at around 10, I weighed 195. Weight coming off from the diet? I SURE HOPE SO!

I look forward to learning a lot here (which I already have!), but even more importantly, have friends to go to when I need support!

Hey Shannon! Welcome to the board. Sounds like you've got a touch of induction flu! Don't worry about your calories, especially through induction. I gather you're keeping track of them somewhere since you knew exactly? That's a great thing to do so you keep yourself accountable for your eating!

Congrats on your loss so far. It may be water weight, but after that, it's all fat!

              Silly Girl-

Yes, I've been keeping track of what I eat with fitday.com. I read about it on here yesterday and I really like it. I couldn't BELIEVE that I ate so many cals. That really freaked me out!

Today I do feel a bit less "starving" like the previous 2 days. Anytime I get a cookie urge or something, I go eat some meat or eggs. I've also discovered sugar-free Jello with a dollop of whipped cream and that tames the sweet tooth. But I'm not craving sweets quite as much today (but yes, still there).

              Thanks for the hi!

Great on the fitday! In theory, the goal is to rid ourselves of wanting the sweets at all. If you need the jello for a while just use it with caution as it's been known to be a staller! Again, don't sweat the calories right now. It's the fat and protein you need to have, oh and the required veggies!

Hi Hollytingle! Your little guy is a cutie! I have 3 boys, ages 7, 4, and 12 months. I adore my boys, but still can't help wanting a girl (yes, still, even after 3 rowdy boys!).
Yes, we are pretty close, aren't we? How are you feeling? Are you having a rough time? I just about blew it, or thought I was going to, right before dinner. I was fixing my family's dinner, and just wanted to eat! Good food! But I quickly ate what I'm supposed to and now am pretty full. This is really pretty hard!

When are you supposed to stop feeling the sugar cravings? I don't know how long I can take that part!

Hiya Shannon... welcome aboard! Good for you for not caving before dinner... that's awesome!

Fat is good to blow away the cravings. Always have a high fat, induction legal snack handy. Hang in there, it really does get easier when your body weans itself off the carbs.

Re: Hello! New to the boards

Thanks! Today I weighed in at 193, so it's heading downwards! YAY! I woke up this AM with ZERO energy- I thought I was gonna collapse. Then the kids wanted breakfast, I said Mommy needs to eat 1st today! And I had bacon and eggs and felt a lot better.

Question? What kinds of legal snacks are good ones to bring with me when I'm out? This weekend is what has me worried. We're usually out and about, and I'm sure we'll find ourselves eating out. How do I know if a food at a restaraunt has carbs or not (or how many for that matter)? This is gonna be a real challenge for me, and I'm not anticipating it!

Yay for planning for the weekend! Absolutely have lots of grab and go things available. Some of the things I do are; have a big bowl of chicken salad made at all times. You can eat it plain, stuff it in celery, wrap a lettuce leaf around it etc. Also, string cheese is good for keeping in your purse, it doesn't spoil. How bout cream cheese and celery?

When at a restaurant watch breading and sauces. Order your food as plain as you need to to make it legal! I think most restaurants are savvy to low carb these days and try to accomodate. If you're at a burger place, order a double cheese and ask for no bun!

Olives, avocado, cheese, hard boiled eggs, cold meats... are all good snacks during induction.
As for restaurant eating, if you're eating at fast food joints then have the burgers without the buns. At other places do ask what's in various things on the menu, or ask for yours to be prepared the way you want it... or stick to plain meats and veggie.
I'm sure someone else will be along to give you better advice than this. Afraid I don't know the American restaurant chains (live in Europe), but eating out doesn't usually present a problem.
